Help Needed Re: Hop Up Bucking/Rubber Types Etc.

Hi,

This didn't seem like a Troubleshooting thread so I added it here.

I bought a Guarder Silicone hop up bucking and tried to install it in my Kalash/D-Boys AKS-74 and found that it didn't fit. The new bucking was way too big to fit in my hop up unit. So much so that I was able to fully insert the old rubber hop up rubber into the new one.

This makes me ask if there are such things as different sizes of hop up or did I just get a lemon? (I brought it back and got a full refund but no explanation)

I'm still looking for a new hop up and I unfortunately know very little about them. Which type/colour/degree/material should I get? And what does each factor mean?

The first upgrade most of my aegs get is a mad bull python barel and mad bull blue hop up rubber and usually have excellent results!

the size of buckings does very between makes and there soft/hard rating, this is complicated more by the size difference you can get between hop up units, the guarder is a little on the large size but is one of the best so is worth the extra patience needed to get it fitted correctly, did you remove the front section from the aeg so you could put the hopup bucking and hop unit together with the barrel outside of the receiver and barrel?

you could try the madbul blue that is normal a little thinner but will still need some work

I tried everything, actually. I tried putting the bucking on the outside and it would simply slide down the barrel when I tried to insert the barrel and bucking back into the hop-up unit. I tried putting the bucking into the hop-up unit first and it just formed a crease in the bucking that meant I couldn't get the barrel back in. Oiling it at any stage did absolutely nothing to help. It was a bit of a nightmare, really.

i've fitted guarder buckings myself into dboys so i know its possible, then again maybe you did get a lemon and a molding issue

I tried to install guaeder clear into my dboys SPR and destroyed it dont do the same and use mass force when removing and installing your hopup.

Guarders fit the Kalash stuff no probs,.,

like all other guns though, the guarder tends to be a little tighter to get in than the likes of the original hopup rubber. it's tight but it'll go in.

I had the exact opposite problem. I could fit the original bucking into the Guarder one. Did I just get a dud or what?

Nah i mean tight as in, tight when trying to install it into the hopup mech after putting it on the barrel.

Well. it was too big in diameter to fit around the barrel and too big to fit in the hop-up unit as it simply creased.

I tried for an hour and I couldn't get it to work at all.

But anyway, we're a bit off topic. What do each of the type/degree/material factors contribute to how the hop-up works?

Hmm, i dont really understand what your asking, I thought that was the topic,

Your old hopup that didnt fit now lives in my Tavor, fit no probs and works a treat.

Silicone hopups are always a bit chunkier of than the standard ones that come in the clones, those are very thin and hard hops.

The softer one works simply because its more grippy. to get the same level of grip from a harder hopup it needs to be engaged more, which in turn shaves off fps. guarder hopups need only a little turn to get the desired effect and so they sacrifice less muzzle velocity to get the grip.
