Facebook: contact the dead

As any fb users know, they've had another revamp of the site. A new tool is "reconnect with" where it shows a friend that you have not contacted in a while. Some people have got upset at this as some of their friends that have died appear. I just think it's total cock that these people complain, I mean they'll leave a dead person as a friend but complain when their profile appears. Anyone with 1/5 of a brain knows that fb can't reconnect you with the dead and that the person it chooses is random. I've already lost most of my faith in the human race, this is bringing me a step closer to total loss of faith.

If a friend of mine that was on facebook died i would not delete them and I would be sad to be reminded that they where gone. I think your being totally insensitive.

    Probably better suited to R&R.

I agree with you if they actually complain to Facebook about it, it's not as if there's a team of people scanning pages for the recently deceased. I'm sure if they did complain though they'd get a hefty apology.

They've every right to feel saddened by it though.

replace dead friends with living people.

    problem solved.

How do you get your account deleted if you are dead?

    you can't.

although one of my friends has died recently, and anytime something is wrote on his wall i can't click into it.

i have to go to my friends list, search for his name, and go to his profile that way. his name isn't a link anywhere else. kind of weird tbh.

people shouldn't delete people who've died from their friends list, but neither should they be angry that facebook didn't know or that it's being insensitive.

they've a right to be upset though, i mean everyone has that right. i get upset when i watch south park - my friends favourite show - but do i write a letter or contact matt and trey to stop the show? god no, i know the sadness is only temporary and i know that watching it will bring back happier memories more so than sad ones :)

right... heres an idea for someone at a loose end.... create a site called deacesedbook.com
you could do very well from the florist's adverts alone.

    Sorry to hear that.

Bit silly to be getting annoyed with Facebook alright.

People who moan about FB and use it should themselves be dead.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,572 ✭✭✭✭brummytom

To be fair, Facebook used to be good.

I joined about a year and a half ago, there weren't many of my mates on there though. Since then, it's had two facelifts, each one a worse layout.

It was good when it was just a tool for keeping in touch with people (I joined it to keep in touch with cousins in America); but since all these stupid 'apps' have appeared it's just become ridiculous. All the bebo types joining.

Must say that reading this has left me feeling kinda disappointed, as the thread title led me to believe that the OP had developed a kick-ass facebook app.

My Mum died this day last week. Can't bring myself to delete her as a friend on facebook, but then can hardly complain when they don't know she has passed away.

I love it, when a facebook 'friend' changes their relationship status to single, "liking it" just to piss them off.

Unless it's a male mate of yours who gets the wrong idea about your happiness at him being single...
