I have been trying to find out if Honda did a 6 speed version

    Honda Accord 2.2 CDTi 2003-2008.

I understand that the gearing the 5 speed is very long as in 3000rpm in 5th will see you doing 100mph.

As the OH's car is a VX Astra 1.7 diesel 5 speed, its not hitting the 50 mgp that it should unless she drives at 60mph up and down the motorway. So looking for a fuel efficent car.

Ive a 2004 Accord 2.2 CDTI and its 5 gears. Not sure about the gearing.

    Different models have diff gears.

I think the diesel gained an extra gear from 2007 onwards.

    Thanks lads.

I was reading Honest John and couldnt find any reference to an extra gear.

If this is off topic apologies, but the cost to change would surely outweigh any savings?

On topic, have a look at the 1.3cdti

I think diff spec variations have diff gears. Eg the Exec has 5 where as the Sport has 6. Not 100% sure but thats what I seem to see online.

And the fact that the Accord weighs alot more than an Astra.

It's quite possible that the 6 gears are more closely stacked but with the same overall gearing in top, in which case the 6spd would be no more economical.
