Mod PS3 Region Free Blu Ray ?

I am thinking about buying a PS 3 in the states next month. My question is this.

Can I get my PS3 modded so that it will play european Blu Ray movies. I dont care about playing online on the PS3. I have a 360 for that.

Just want a Blu Ray player abnd be able to play the F1 game

All blu ray and PS3 games are region free. The only problems you will have is that european PS1 games won't work on it and if you buy games from the european PSN store some of them won't work unless you are playing in HD.

1) Upscaling DVD's
2) Play European DVDs and Blu Ray

Will a mod PS3 do this ?

a normal ps3 will do this why dont you buy one here ?
american electronics run on 110v, we have 220 here, so you'd be as well off, or you'll have to get a transformer

cant mod ps3 anyhow

No, because there is no modding of the PS3 available. It hasn't been hacked in the 3 years it been on the market.

The PS3 has a variable power supply which is dead handy. My american PS3 runs and all I did was just change the plug to a european one. However I think the new slims might not have a variable power supply since they took the variable power supply out of the european consoles so I'm pretty sure that cost cutting carried over to the new slim.

movies that come out here are better
the amount of "coming soon" and "in a theater near you" thats at the start of u.s dvds and blu ray is huge and you need to skip each one seperatly

1) Yes, it will upscale your DVD's
2) An American PS3 will only play Region 1 DVD's and Region A Blu-Rays (unless they are region free of course)

The simple answer = buy a european model, 300euro for a slim is awesome vale, if you are planning on saving money then go up north and get one...No point in getting US version if you want it for european blu rays etc..Also importing may cost a heavy fine if customs get it...

That should be true, but it's not. A PAL PS3 won't output an NTSC signal to your television, even if it does support it. So if you buy a PSone game from the US store, you will need to play it in HD.

Actually a PAL PS3 does output NTSC as far as I know. NTSC models won't output in PAL though.

If you get a PS3 from the US, it won't play EU dvd's.
You'd be better off buying it here as it will play your dvd's and upscale them. The vast majority of blu ray movies are region free.
