    Hi all,

Just wondering if anyone has been to Marakech with an SLR? I'm heading over in December and I've read that photography can be tricky there from a cultural point of view.

    Any thoughts?

it is a great place, very colourfull, but the people don't like being photographed , in particular the women . It really is a cultutally out there place , especially in the heat of the afternoon , but you'll be fine.

Yes - as I've heard alright. Looking forward to seeing the place. Pretty sure I haven't been anywhere like it before.

Cheers for the replies. I reckon I'll just head on over and see how it goes!

Marrakesh is amazing - it is a photographers dream. From the light quality to the exotic surrounds......

I wish I had of had an SLR when I was there......

Learn the the word 'No' in arabic, berber and french and be very self confident - shoooing people away with a smile on your face and a polite nod.....

bring (or buy there) a tripod - th emain square Jemai la Fna (spelling ?) is fantastic, as are the ruins of several 'palais' (dont get tours from randomers)

everyone wants your money as there is a lot of poverty, but I found they asked with a smile on their faces and knew they were chancing their arms..... if you have seen the haggle scene in Life of Brian you will know what to expect in the markets....

Enjoy it - prepare to get lost in the souks/markets- its part of the experience - so dont panic
