secondary school art teaching

    i am a second year fine art student but i want to go on to do secondary art teaching. i'm wondering can i apply for the H dip course with an ordinary degree or do i have to do 4th year?

    First thing you need to do is see if the teaching council recognises your degree to teach Art.

    You can teach with the ordinary degree but i would recommend you do the full 4 years, Art jobs are one of the hardest to get out there due to the fact that it is an optional subject and many schools don't have Art. There is a huge amount of competition for these jobs so get yourself as qualified as you can. I graduated from my Dip in 2005, luckily got a job straight away, but one of my closest friends on the course has seen only 1 year of work in that time, so be warned!
