I was purusing the net today looking at some primitive old cars (trabant, Yugo, zastava, volga) when I came across this stunning hybrid that some genius has created from "marrying" a V12 bmw 850csi and an old Soviet Volga GAZ-21.

I think it is absolutely STUNNING. Maybe it's just because I like archaic cars, but the body design with the drops, the chops, the widening has created a very unique looking car with wonderful lines. Even the internal incorporation of the 8 series dashboard, steering wheel, doorcards etc., creates the best of both worlds.

Wow, that's a beaut! The Volga 21 isn't a bad looking car to start with, but I still never though it could look that good!

I remember reading an article on that car, it was built in Russia in a secret location by a custom car builder iirc.

The interior spoils it a lot. Some modernised version of the original would have worked better.

Unkel, you have a good memory as your left a thumb up on that particular post!!

Man there's a serious amount of stuff on this motor forum alone! I found the whole boards site by searching the internet about cars and threads from here kept getting picked up by google... hence my deciding to join.

Has anybody seen any video of this particular car in action as the above youtube links are just photo montages???

If you look at the dimensions given on some of the photos... they match the wheelbase of the 850 exactly (2684mm). The width is a tad different as they measure it from the outsides of the chrome bumpers on the volga.

I'd say they built the new volga body on top of the beamer chassis and left the engine and gearbox in situ on a platform that was engineered to handle almost 300km/h cruising speed. Thus to keep all the electronic gadgetry in place, they ran with the same console??!! Imagine the amount of wiring that would be involved in re-integrating the beamer's electronics to a new interface!

I respect your opinion, it's just that the body-work / Engineering type heads that created this beaut may have taken a shortcut by re-adapting the dashboard etc., as best they could to fit the new body mould, and I was commenting on the fact that they did a good job doing this.
