I've heard a rumour that as the clocks are going back tonight that clubs will be open on average an extra hour, but the clocks don't go back til three. Anyone know if this is true? Got two birthday parties to attend and want to try and make both.

The clocks go back at 2AM so in general the pubs will shut at 1:30AM (the second one)

I think that technically they are supposed to close at the 'old' time i.e. they're not supposed to stay open an extra hour :(

    Ah, this myth
I've had this many times as a barman

Clubs close as normal OP, no difference at all

Every year in the pub I work in people try to pull the "the bar can stay open another hour" trick and it never works. :p

The rule, worldwide, is...clocks don't go back til you're home in bed.

Is there one about an hour less drinking when they go forward every year?

Depends on the club I guess. The one I worked at in Carlow was not quick to inform the staff about it either. I wasnt all that pleased having to work the extra hour, given it attracted double the usual crowd and gave me a throbbing headache. But no - you go enjoy yourself. I have a real job now.

So the general consensus is that the odd club/pub stays open the extra hour but across the board it's a no..... shucks....

This thread is indeed an annual event along with the thread about how evil Good Friday is.

The clocks do not officially go back until 3am so no they will not stay open for an extra hour. If it is a house party however then are required to make it last an extra hour!

Is it not at 2am when they go back? That's what all of the tv channels seem to be thinking anyway.

3am according to my sources, regardless the clubs will not be opening for an extra hour.

Ah yes, this weekend every year my wife hands me her phone so I can "fix" the time on it for her.

This time every year I have to explain to my mam what ''real'' time it is for about a week after the clocks change..

Extra hour in bed before work for me-happy times!
I remember last year (could possibly have been the yr before) Dorans stayed open the extra hour-was deadly! No chance of that happening this year!
