I have decided to get an iphone but I can't really decide if i should pay 500eur and get it on prepay or should I pay less and get it on bill pay...

I'm not a heavy phone user, i don't spend more than 20eur a month on my mobile. So I wasn't too sure about paying 40eur a month for the bill pay, though you do have to pay only 200eur for the phone and you get 1gb data allowance on that which may make up for the price difference.

And so now i'm really not sure which way to go.
Should I pay the 519eur and get the pre pay phone with no contracts but pay for internet usage or should I pay 200eur for the bill pay, pay 40eur a month but get the 1gb data allowance...

    Can anyone help me out...
    Cheers!

Hi, I'm in the same position as yourself. I'm currently on meteor PAYG, and with free texts to all networks, rarely spend over 20EUR a month. So I've been flip-flopping in my head for the last week about what way to go with the new iphone... In the end, I decided to buy the phone outright and use PAYG with o2. The iphone comes with o2 experience plus, which you can change to o2 experience more, which gives you free texts to all networks (once you top up by the requisite €20 of course!)

I rarely make calls on my phone, so the free minutes of the bill pay package would be of no use to me. So with the free texts, I should only be paying for the internet usage, and as I have access to wifi in college and at home, I'm hoping it won't be too dear...

Finally, being a student, it's always better for me to just be able to spend what I have:) So now I can't wait for my shiny new iphone :D

Lately i decided I'm just gonna get the new Ipod Touch.
Its pretty much the same as the iphone 3gs minus the phone (same processor, graphics card and all) and only costs 280eur.
So I'll keep my phone and stay on my cheap meteor PAYG and use the ipod to mess around with the fancy applications, internet and all that.

Think you'll be disappointed with an iPod Touch... A lot of apps need internet so you won't be able to use them outside of your house and a lot of them use camera/microphone so you'll be missing out.

I used to spend about €40-50 a month on credit on my old phone. I rarely call, but text a lot. I'm now only spending about €25 a month and that's pretty much all on internet charges because of the unlimited texts. If you don't call much then you can make a BIG saving over the life of the phone by going PAYG.

prepay is 1c per kb up to 99c and then free up to 50mbs per day, so tis really cheap anyway. i'd say you'll be fine on prepay.

Nah, thats grand, i thought about it a lot and then got myself the ipod touch.
I don't really need internet on the go and i really can't afford the mobile internet cuz i like watching videos and such which would cost me a fortune. So what I do now is I download all the videos and college lectures onto my ipod in advance at home and then watch them later when i'm free or on the bus and such...

The new ipod's got a microphone in the headphone so i could record stuff with that, slightly inconvenient but it'll do.
Its just the 240eur i've saved with buying the ipod instead should make up for the short comings... Not easy being a student! :(
