Just saw some crazy deals on HD rigs on the digi site.
I reckon a replacement is just around the corner and they need to clear stock.
They are willing to give you a $4K trade in value for an mbox or $5K for a 002 rack!
Either there is a replacement due or they are f*cked and have no turnover.

pt9 is on the way with new hardware if the thread with their marketing guy is to be believed.

thank fook, cause pt8 has to be the biggest money spinning disaster since cubase 4!

i think dav from here is still?

Has anyone heard anymore about this ?

These deals have been around for a while, nothing new. I think that a new HD
system has to be in the works, the life cycle for HD has to be near its logical end. The reason for these deals is simple

    1. Get rid of stock
    2. Keep LE users in the Digi/Avid fold.

seems likes he has skipped out of the thread early after hinting at what might or might not be.

they did the same thing a few years back with the 002 b4 the 003 came out.

and clearly theres something new on the horizon after the big hardware survey they sent out.

and the way the guy was talking there was zero chance of them going native.

    idiots.

"Going native" ... does that mean not having to use Digi/M-Audio hardware with PT?.. i.e. just being able to use whatever interfaces suit your needs/budget?... or (even better!) having the ability to edit on PT without needing to have hardware connected all the time?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 535 ✭✭✭woodsdenis

Just for clarification, where does it say in the OP link about PT9 and not going native. I cant see it:confused:

GOING NATIVE MEANS USING THE CPU FOR PROCESSING RATHER THAN THE DSP CARDS.

    sorry caps

I see that you have to have your trade in unit ( mbox or 002 ) registered before the offer begins ... to stop the like of me buying one on Ebay for $350 and trading up ;)

Well that makes great business sense doesn't it?... why would Digi care where anybody gets the unit they're trading? It's not like it's going to be worth anything to them regardless of where the unit came from. Would they really pass up the chance of a few grands worth of HD business just because somebody is not the original owner of the old MBox/002/003hardware? That's nuts!... better for them to shift more of their HD rigs by easing the (pointless) restrictions.

(Note, I haven't read the stuff on the DUC, so I'm probably re-hashing an old argument anyway).

The other side of that is it's a reward to longer term customers who have already invested in Digi , not scavenging hounds like myself ...

Ah yeah, I get that... but long-term customers can still trade away. Maybe Digi could make a suitable adjustment/sweetener to the offer for "long-term" customers who already have stuff registered (extra plug-ins or something that doesn’t “really” cost Digi any money) ... and let's be honest, its not about rewarding customers either way... it's about shifting all of those HD rigs gathering dust in Digi's warehouses.

From Digi's perspective, there's a missed opportunity to take money from hungry scavengers like yourself. It's all dollars for Digi at the end of the day. Beggars can't be choosers!

I think I even read somewhere that they used the manufacture of the Eleven rack to limit their liability on unfulfilled contracts with suppliers who provided components for the HD rigs... it’s gas really - there's all sorts of conjecture/conspiracy about Digi out there on t’Interweb. I hadn’t realised how many people hated Digi… seems like they’re the Microsoft of the audio world.

I've nothing against them - we sell quite a few HD rigs and whilst the do flex their muscles like a monopoly would , I've had only good experiences with their service dept. and their service overall.

It's a tool - it works (most of the time!)

Just to echo this sentiment, I have had good experiences with Digi's service dept. My 002R which is well out of guarantee period started playnig up recently, a bit of investigation showed it to be a blown power harness (a design flaw in early 002Rs). I called Digi, they gave me a service number, sent it off to be repaired and got it Fed-Exed back to me within 3 days?

Can't really say fairer than that.

My only gripe (and in fairness it isn't really a gripe) with Digi is how slow they are to implement ADC in LE - as all competing DAWs have it at this stage. I know Mellowmuse make a plug that will attempt ADC but it is pants unless you have no aux buses or intend doing any sort of parrallel compression etc.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,790 ✭✭✭PaulBrewer

I'm sure they could implement ADC if they wanted to ! ;)

Yep, according to their marketing guy on the DUC it has "extremely high priority".

It really is amazing that a company who sends out so many customer surveys continues to ignore the number 1 plea from LE users - just search "ADC" on DUC forum and see how many results you get back.

That being said, I like working in Pro Tools, it does what I need it to do - bar ADC :o.

From their perspective I'd imagine it's desirable to have some 'space' between LE and HD.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 347 ✭✭SeanHurley

Yes but truly that is living in a vacuum. They need to realise that there is competition now. Most other DAWs have ADC as standard.

I realise Digi need to keep space between their two ranges but there are a lot of people migrating to Logic which offers pretty much the same feature set as PT HD for the cost of PT LE. These are recessionary times, resting on the "well we are the industry standard" laurels maybe costly to Avid/Digi.

I have it Dav but I am not a fan. IMO it is very clunky if you are using aux buses extensively. I feel it can sometimes take longer to do all that "pinging" malarky than it is to just manually calculate and offset plugin latency.

That is just me. I would prefer something automatic. It's just a minor gripe tho - PT is still my DAW of choice.

    ^^agree

got it with a uad card and ditched it almost immediatly. nothing wrong with digi time adjuster.

    but yeah. ADC PLEASE....
