Coming into January I want to hire someone to go around Galway in this costume and to be opening it up:

    http://www.thecostumeshop.ie/fancydr...r-costume.html

Obviously he wont be going up to kids doing it or the elderly however is there any legal reason he couldnt go and do this?

To be honest I think the person wearing it would be in hot water or at least on thin ice. One complaint for a member of the public and the following legislation would aptly cover it. (And even at that if a member of AGS say it with public present (s)he could intervien.

Section 6 Criminal Justice (Public Order) Act 1994. Threatening, abusive or insulting words or behaviour in a public place.

Broadly I agree - if not S. 6 of this Act (which is words/behaviour intentional or reckless as to causing a breach of the peace), S. 5 of the same Act (offensive behaviour during specified hours or at any time after being requested to stop by a garda)...there is also some piece of victorian style legislation which prohibits indecent behaviour in a place which the public is likely to frequent.

I would say using that costume in a public place is asking for trouble and probably constitutes an offence - different if it was during some kind of performance which people attended voluntarily with a degree of foresight as to what was likely to be involved.

Oh yeah - to the OP - why ??????? I'm genuinely curious.

I've no clue to the legality of it. But I do know about bad taste and that personifies ie.

    Why why why?????!

Why would you think a hideous costume like that is good advertising??

OMG that is one of the most disgusting and offensive things I have ever seen in my life.

    It should be illegal.......

ah I think it's funny. reminds me of the joke about the flasher, he was thinking whether he'd give up his flashing, in the end he said he'd stick it out for another year.

    Ah come on, it's hilarious.
As the saying goes "any publicity is good publicity".

I imagine if a Garda saw it he would stop the shenanigans... however i say give it a go. :D

    hilarious?

It's rude and in really bad taste.

It would offend me to the height if i saw someone wearing it. I would make a call to the local Garda Station if I saw someone in public with this costume on.

    Interesting phone call though :

    'Hello, Galway Garda Station'

Hello Gard, you won't believe the disgusting thing I have just seen tearing around Eyre Square'

'Can you describe the nature of the offensive conduct sir/madam ?'

    'There's a fully clothed man runnning around dressed as a flasher...hello ? hello ? gard...HELLLO GARD...'

I think you need to lighten up a bit, it is hilarious. I guess we'll have to agree to disagree though...

If there was a guard in the vicinity they might do something about it but I can see them calling out to complaint over a fully dressed man running around "exposing" fake bits and pieces.
