No its not 100% accurate, but it gives more info than "cartell" tho.

The problem with a site like that is that partial accuracy is no good - if you can't trust it then it's useless. For example, I bought a 2001 Subaru Forester from its original owner in Feb 08, car was written off in May 08 and was paid out for in full by the ins co in Jun 08. When I check the car now it's down as having one owner, written off = no, scrapped = no. There was a long thread full of such inaccuracies a while back - if we only had search..

Surely all the other sites that do this kind of thing are just as inaccurate so,as they all have the same database to draw their info from?

Mywheels says my original Irish reg Triumph is an import any my 73 G *** Merc isn't and my everyday ex taxi Vectra wasn't a taxi, they got the 850 right though:rolleyes:

written off by the insurance company (in that they paid up) and sold and then repaired and put back on the road I guess....NOT written off or scrapped as far as the taxbook wasnt surrendered. Info is therefore accurate.

Put it like this - would you be happy if you bought my old car partly on the basis of the information supplied by mywheels? Even leaving the issue of the car having been written off aside, the number of owners is still incorrect.

The Statistics aspect of mywheels.ie is pretty cool. You can get a numerical insight into our economic mentality.

The county by county numbers are interesting, as you can check the numbers for new cars bought and the numbers imported. Border counties like DL, MN and CN seem to be running a much higher ratio of imports to new cars bought - which is understandable as they don't have to go far for value.

But check out the number of cars registered for the whole country for 07, 08, 09 and you see why dealerships have been in crisis nationwide.

    2007
    Number of new vehicles: 247559
    Number of imports: 87940
    Ratio New/Imported:2.82

    2008
    Number of new vehicles: 194560
    Number of imports: 90163
    Ratio New/Imported: 2.16

    2009
    Number of new vehicles: 68366
    Number of imports: 64526
    Ratio of New/Imported: 1.06

Interesting that the ratio (I did the calculations) have roughly gone from 3:1, to 2:1 and then 1:1 in the last three years.

The top 5 Model table also lets you see the most popular car nationwide as well as by county. Shame they don't give us the top twenty models.

It's also pity they don't give the figures all the way back to 2000. I remember that dublin Reg's were well over the hundred thousand mark that year!

My apologies for so many numbers in this post, but the geeky side of me enjoys these resourceful websights that allo the normal punter to get an insight into what's going on in the automotive industry nationwide.

Theres a difference between a car being a financial write off by an Insurance Company and having been taken off the road and scrappped. After all a minor front end shunt setting off the airbags could be enough to make it uneconomic to repair for an Insurance company as could getting caught in a flood. Neither of these would make the car unsafe. Me being happy about it doesnt come into it.
