Instead of creating a list of connections to all known free wifi hotspots, If I set the ESSID to ANY (uppercase) then it will try to connect to ANY open access point. Part of the WiFi standard and all that , or maybe I should say it will only connect to those with no password.

But I don't want to connect to BitBuzz or similar that only provide DNS

So can I say "ANY" except an exception list ?

Yes I could probably script something with iwspy and grep for "FREE" and business names and stuff / exclude Belkin Default eircom* and netgear and linksys ZyXEL NTL* UPC* AND then check for connectivity and then create connections but was wondering if there was a easier way ?
