I'm a bit confused, what's the story with the 'finance' lecture on its own, do we have to go to that? And the 'integrated case work'.

It all sounds like such bs...

Hi I did the FAE course last year and have one little bit of advice, don't be late for Sean Murray's lectures.
He won't let you into class and will make a show of you. On the other side of that though he is a really good lecturer and I learnt alot from him.
Best of luck to all of you doing the new course.

    hi (first post!)

does anybody else know if we have to attend all of the lectures scheduled? the timetable says "core optional" which is a little misleading! i was under the impression there would be cap1 and cap2 revision lectures and not just straight into the integrated case work?

In my opinion, its says optional as it is optional. It is revision. You will note that the lectures after december are "core" or "elective" meaning it has to be done.

Thats my take on it anyhow, but you will never know with the institute!

So the lectures start before the repeat results are out whats that about?!

I think they expect us to go to them. It's as if we'll be THAT confident that we'll actually be sitting FAEs next year.

Does anyone know how they expect us to make the midweek lectures at 18:30?? I work till 17:30 at the opposite end of Dublin!!! When am I supposed to eat

Do you not realise we (I say we in a hopeful way as im awaiting repeat results) are not allowed have a life outside work and study for 3 years!!

Besides think of those of us waiting on repeat results who may not hve the luxury of getting through to FAEs this year. Id be only delighted to swap positions with you. I could go without having a dinner a few evenings if it ment not having to repeat CAP2s!!

Good question. Had the same problem last year getting to UCD on the weekends on public transport. Many's the Sunday morning I was up and out waiting for a bus that failed to materialise until long after lectures had started.

+1 on this. Not to mention the price tag for the privilege of repeating  Damn you CAP2!!! Anyone else see the record pass rate for the FAE's this year and feel like the Institute are running a bit of a fiddle and those of us who just did CAP2 got the short straw?

To make evening lectures I will have to get out early from work. No chance of making a bus into the city centre in time for 6.30.

It wouldn't surprise me, I feel all kinds of uncertainity about this new marking scheme for the FAEs where they deem you to be "Competant" or "Not Competant", all seems a bit too easy to manipulate should the need arise... A marking scheme that qualitative puts all the power in the hands of the Institute :(.

yeah whats this competency thing about!! This means that the faes are either going to get easier or a lot harder, with those not competent having essentially to sit all exams again!!

To be honest i cant stand the icai most incompetent bunch of idiots i know!!!

    Somebody second me!!!

    Agreed,

And am I the only one who feels absolutely cheated by yesterdays 76% (86-90% in Big 4) pass rate? It will be around 50% nationwide next year. Fair play to those who passed and for putting in all the hard work, but I am in no doubt that they had an easier road of it, and I dont think one single person who did the FAE's under the old course would deny this! Next year we dont have the lovely luxury of compensation, and if we fail our core subject, we repeat the whole damn thing again!! Oh and we wait a full year to repeat, rather than just 9 months for this year's FAE (and then a 3rd attempt 6 months after that if I'm not mistaken) What a lovely gift to the few people who didnt pass.

I'll go thirds on that one, they are utter useless, I motion to have their title changed to "Unprofessional Body". To be honest, I only joined the Institute because my big 4 firm made me. I was with a small firm and wish I had stayed and went with ACCA, one of my mates that was in the same year of college as me has already passed his finals with the ACCA.

    The two biggest mistakes I've ever made;

    1. Joining the Big 4.
    2. Joining the Institute.

Absolutely. Pretty blatant tbh, added to next year's complete lack of transparency and accountability with this competent/not competent crap. Just leaves the whole thing wide open to abuse. Good corporate governance doesn't apply with regard to the institute it seems, they can pretty much do what they like.

I was waiting on repeat results so haven't attended any of the lectures yet. Can anybody give an update on these lectures? Have they been well attended? Are they revision or new material? Thanks in advance.
