Out of curiosity is anyone experiencing 3G reps calling to houses trying to sell 3 broadband, also asking for bank details, date of birth, etc. in person and calling them out over the phone to someone on the other end of the line?

Apparently there is some going around locally near my girlfriends house trying to sell 3G and asking for a lot of personal information.

I would not give that kind of information out willy nilly. I keep gates shut so no one calls.

It makes me so angry when people think 3 = 3G.

3 and 3G are not the same company. I'm sure it'll be 3 who are trying to sell you 3 Broadband, not 3G.

yes its 3 broadband that is being sold. a friend of mine got it up near Tipperary town on the road out to Galbally. Seems its excellent. Its part of the National Broadband Scheme, and certain areas are currently live with loads more to follow

I am aware of the nbs, all i wanted to know was if anyone experienced what i mentioned in my first post as the guy that called to my girlfriends house asked some very personal questions, how my girlfriends mother described the questions he asked seem spurious to me.

FYI 3G isnt a company its a service. anyone selling 3G internet whether its 3 Mobile, vodafone, o2 etc, i consider to be a 3G rep. i did say in this particular case that this rep was trying to sell 3 Broadband and not vodafone, o2 etc, if you read my original post. Normally they try to push whatever will work in your area and tell you if you are not happy you can return it within 14 days and try one with another provider. this guy was only pushing 3

For a newbie around here, you seem to know a lot about 3 Broadband and the NBS, read the rules about pimping

Really, tell me more about this awesome product then... How does it compare to... a reliable fixed line with low pings and high/no caps?

Whats that you say? It doesn't? Then why was it granted the NBS?
    fail

Come here you shouldn't shill on Boards like this. It is obvious from your other posts that you work for 3 or part of the NBS project, "a friend of mine" my foot.
Fine post here with objective comments but crap like this does nobody any good. A mobile broadband provider should never have been awarded the NBS contract, it simply isn't broadband.
It is however good for what most people think they need broadband for right now but it will very quickly become obsolete when new requirements & services hit the marketplace.

Because the mods don't live here. Don't post stupid comments like this on thread again.

people calling to your door like this should have proper id from the company they are working for and you should sign nothing there and then but ask them to call back after you have examined the small print and if they give excuses why they cant let them on their way with nothing!

also if you are unsure of their identity you should ring the company to confirm, anyone can be "signing you up" to mobile broadband midband but in reality they could just as easily be gathering your banking details to clear out your account!

3G is also a retail chain which sells phones and accessories, including 3 products. I'm not sure they would appreciate an implication that they have reps knocking on doors.
