Seriously, it's scary how many people you see texting, almost non-stop.

I saw a couple walking down the street, talking to each other, and they were both texting at the same time . Could've been to each other for all I know.

Is the art of conversation dead? Whatever happened to 'calling' someone? It's cheaper in the long run, after all.

Well alot of people have the 'Free texts to all networks' offer. This proves cheap. But I agree OP. Even in school the amount of people texting. I've even seen some essays wrote in text speak.

Text is handy for communicating with people you dont really like.

People texting all day is crazy, why not just ring the person for f**k sake.
And people dont know how god damn ignorant they are sometimes,
    Texting at the dinner,
    Texting in the cinema,
Texting while watching a good film on the telly
Texting while standing there talking to you, can you not wait two f**king minutes, is it that F**king important ?
    There's countless others
And as for the F**king txt speak where every single word is shortened, well thats a whole other topic. I just delete them, dont even attempt to read them. F**king Gobsh1ts, can you not just type it out normally.

I genuinely am not that worried about txt speak. I don't like to see it on boards but it's just a creative way of saying as much as possible whilst bearing in mind that there is a restriction in the amount of characters you can use. I'm not happy about seeing it on boards but in text form it's just a means to an end.

The English language is always evolving, its a generation thing. And as young people mostly use it, its going to become more and more common until its excepted has the norm.

You can't call people while they're in class/work, so you text :)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 136 ✭✭BDR

I'm one of those people who texts all the time :o

I'm still in school though so we're not meant to have our phone on us other than at lunch so if I was walking down the hall on the phone it wouldn't really work.

    dnt use txt spk tho

The worst is when someone is texting you and they're in the house with you. Can't you just roar up the stairs like the good ol days?

pathetic, some people are ruled by their mobiles!!!!!!

actually when i was in school there was a girl who used to sit texting non stop off her phone and she wouldnt even have to look at what she was doing!! it was mental i dont know how she did it!!

I always text, just prefer it to talking because you don't have those awkward silences.
I used to be always texting in class in school, but I can't now because I have a touch screen phone.

Not sure if its correct, but I'm pretty sure I heard that the A Level English were accepting text speak in the exam?

Some people just can't stop texting, but even the general everyday use of phones is high.

I see your calling people at work arguement, and raise you a what did we do before mobiles arguement ;)
I knOOOw the kidz grew up with mobiles, and if they are EVER seen public and known or suspected of having a phone in their possession, they will be outed to the no-friends police for not using it at all times, fairly sad really.

All this text messaging in text language and MSN crap these days really annoys me! Its all my younger sisters do anymore, Im surprised that they can still pass their English essays anymore, with their constant txt spk!

But did you have to put it in the title :(

If anyone that wasn't my ma or da said something like that to me I'd tell them to fcuk off with themselves.

the choice is quite simple. if he wants to sit with us he can't be on his phone the whole time. if he wants that he can **** off somewhere else

    you'll understand when you're older

Its just communication evolving. I prefer texting, emailing and pming on m.boards then ringing someone. Its easy and doesn't require an immediate response.

    Yes :D
How do you know they were a couple? :/
Because they were walking beside each other, at the same speed, going in the same direction, and were taking it in turns to move their mouths, to do what I can only assume was talk to each other.

Okay Mr Pedantic, I don't know if they were a couple, but they were walking with each other, happy? :p
As in, 'for a chat' etc.?
Yes, if you have a phone in your hand and want to talk to someone, dial the bloody number and actually talk ffs

FWIW, I'm not against texting, I do it alot as well, I'm just saying are we using it too much?

    Hold up, Mrs Fletcher...

Sounds a helluvalot like two friends / work collegues. Are you sure you didn't notice him giving her what looked like mouth to mouth resuscitation? only that might nearly explain the mix up..
Okay Mr Pedantic, I don't know if they were a couple, but they were walking with each other, happy? :p
Ms, will do fine thank you. Yeh.. no. not really.
Yes, if you have a phone in your hand and want to talk to someone, dial the bloody number and actually talk ffs
It sounds a bit mad tbh. Why would I want to do that? :(

Rest assured, I'm not only opposed to texting, I'm opposed to calling, or even answering calls.

In conclusion: there are far too many texts and calls.

I text but i never bother with text language. Predictive text is as easy and with meteor's free texts offer, I don't need to worry about the cost so I don't mind going into a second or third text for express thoughts, feelings, etc.. Any I only text if I have something to say. I don't bother with conversations such as the, "Hey xxxxxxx" "How're you? xxxxxxxxx" "What you up to? xxxxxx" ones. That said I still text a lot and without free texts would be through €20 credit in a week.:D
