What makes you think a cross country race in rural Ireland would be staged in a field!
Definitely wont be on a manicured lawn like Tymon Park or Malahide castle grounds.
Seriously I heard from wexford its a fairly straight forward honest course. No "mad" terrain or gradients.

there was an open xc meeting held here in september and the wexford novice was held here two sundays ago - i spectated that day and the course looked pretty good.... although obviously it's a fair bit easier looking on than running it :-)
it's a 1km lap held in the one field - they throw in a few twists and turns at the top of the field to get the full 1km out of it but there is plenty of good running on it...... it's a field directly opposite the church in the middle of Adamstown village...the start is uphill for about 300m

for a few pics of the novice race and to get a feel for the course check out http://www.athleticswexford.com/index.php/photos/106-wexford-cross-country-day-1-photos

would like to be running this as it's such a better course than avondale but as previously posted, it's a pity it's (almost) clashing with DCM

Cheers - please stop mentioning Avondale, ran the Novice there a few weeks ago (3 times up the hill) and the Senior is there in Dec (5 times up the hill) :(

Anyone know anything about Kilbeggan for the inter-counties

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 262 ✭✭bewleys berry

on the subject of avondale, i ran the leinster novice there two years ago and after that experience i swore i will never run there again (no matter what race takes place there) as it's a brutal course - that hill is a pure killer and the downhill is far too steep and dangerous.....

i'd say there going to use the racecourse in kilbeggan (similar to the way they used tramore racecourse for the intercounties last year)..if they do use it then all the better cos it's a very flat course with some very gentle undulations threw in the whole way round

I also had the 'pleasure' of running it in really bad weather so the picturesque scenery was enhanced with streams running through the grounds, and down the hills

    In the mens vets race:
    1. Noel Kelly (Tullamore Harriers)
    2. ??? - a guy wearing a Meath singlet
    3. Tom O' Connor (Liffey Valley)

    In the womens vets race:
    1. Elizabeth Cuskelly

    In the mens novice race:
    1. Michael Mulhare (North Laois)
    2. Niall Sheehan (Gowran)
    3. Tom Hogan (Slaney Olympic)

Didn't catch the finish of the ladies novice race but was shaping up like a cracker with a group of four or so women out clear..... Tekea Gebrezgi was looking strong as was a DSD athlete (i thought they had another lap to go:rolleyes:

Fairly sure a Mullingar Harriers female won this one

could easy happen SP, as I was wondering why the group of four hadn't entered the back straight again and then I realised they had gone through the finishing chute:p

any name for the mullingar athlete? was she the girl wearing the baseball cap? cos if so i think she finished third in the novice last year at avondale

I'm awful on names. Descriptions I can do. She was wearing a baseball hat.

What about the older juvenile races? U16 and U18?

Michael Mulhare was in good form in both the Rathfarnham 5k and the Gerry Farnan. He'll be in Santry on the U23 team.

Nice racing conditions again today. Expected allot more mud. There was more cow sh*t than mud.

Bit slower than Dublin but it felt allot easier for me today.

Conditions were pretty good, and the course was relatively straightforward alright....Need to start working on my speed.

Azi Gebrezgi was second with Tekea fifth. Don't know who won. Another good performance by Ml. Mulhare.

I know my club took a few. They may only involve our club athletes, I don't know. If I get my hands on them I'll stick them up on RacePix365.com.

If you dislike steep decents, i recommend you try out an IMRA race.

I highly recommend the Powerscourt Ridge race on the 7th of November :D
