Replacing Side Car Window - Cheapest places in Dublin?

My left side car window (the small one inbetween the one that rolls down and the rear window) was smashed. Need to get it repaired. Rang up Autoglass but they quoted me €120 which I thought was very expensive and said it wouldn't be done til Tuesday. Does anyone else know of any other companies that replace car windows?

It's an 1998 Opel Astra Hatchback.

Trying to get it done tomorrow if possible.

Trip to your nearset scrapyard might be worth a call, €30 or there
abouts for the glass i reckon and if you know any one who's handy
with a few tools. You'll be all set.

Hmmmm... I'll give a few of them a try, could ask my Dad (yes, typical girl relying on her father :P ) but hes in Donegal while I'm based in Dublin. Really did not think it would be the €120 mark, expected €70 max for it.

Are you sure your insurance doesn't cover it?

    +1

If you have "windscreen" cover then normally all glass other than sunroof is covered. Usually the no claims bonus is not affected. Worth checking your policy.

Don't have windscreen cover as I'm with Quinn and it was an add on which I didn't opt for. Feeling a bit **** now that I didn't.

Anyone know if there is any companies that will put in a temporary perspex glass?

The window you looking for is known as a Rear Quarter Light window. Your best bet is get one in a scrap yard. I hope you're not going for an NCT anytime soon because perspex is not allowed unless it has certain safety certifications, which would probably make it as expensive as the proper glass.

So I rang up a few places, breakers/scrap yard didn't have any. Told me bonded windows were too hard to get parts and replace, so rang up Opel Dealers and they said it would be €105 for just the glass. Rang up Autoglass again, they actually quoted me higher, €150, so when I told them they originally quoted me €120, they couldn't charge me extra which fair dues to them.

But still, €120 out of my pocket cos of some stupid eejit. Definitely getting windscreen cover on my next premium.

that happened my car once I locked the keys inside so broke the rear quarter window then i drove up to my local car dismantler & got me a new window had to cut it out with a slabknife. then put it in the rubber frame & pop it back in. was only 5mins work window cost me €20 :)

Can't believe that it Is hard to get a window for Opel astra! That litlle window must be very cheap and should be easy to find. Check partfinder.ie and also check adverts or gumtree for somebody who is dismantling his astra. Once you have the window ask your dad or some friend to replace it as it is very simple.

Could be cos I'm a girl, easy target and all that? I need to get it fixed before this Friday anyways, parking my car for the weekend at the airport so I need to have a proper window in place. Feck it. I'll just have to cut out the alcohol for the next few weeks so.

You can generally add it to the premium midway through for a proportionally reduced amount with Quinn. Adding it and trying to claim two days later would get noticed though!
