Can anyone recommend where to get a good acoustic guitar for a complete beginner? The akward part is that it has to be left handed, not really interested in switching strings. My budget is around the 200e mark. Also can anyone tell me what else ill need/where to get them,ie a tuner etc. Im from Wexford if that helps.

You should try www.thomann.de ,they have a good range of left handed guitars, bass guitars etc, im left handed myself and any shops i ve been in here in Ireland has been very limited, they mostly tell you we ll order for you etc, they ll also have carry cases, tuners, strings, the whole nine yards on thomann,

If its an absolute beginner I'd suggest going with a right handed guitar.
Will save lots of hassle and money in the future.
I'm left handed at everything except playing guitar and its just because I had only had access to a right handed guitar when I started learning. Both hands have plenty of work to do so whats the difference!:D

Hmm i see your point but it just feels wrong if that makes sense?i suppose it will probably be very difficult either way but left handed is natural and thus makes it slightly easier

    Mike,

I too am left handed, I am sure there are plenty of left hand guitars around the €200 mark. Where abouts are you?
If the person learning to play the guitar naturally picks it up for a lefty he/she would find quite difficult playing right handed.

Im in Wexford but I cant even find a music shop let alone a lefty guitar so was thinking online would be my best option? Exactly what I was thinking, like I have messed around on the guitar before and play a mean wonderwall ha so going right handed would be next to impossible?

I went out with the missius a few christmases ago to get me a lefty acoustic. There was some tat at about €150 and then nothing up to €1500. I eventually got a fender acoustic in Wicklow St in Dublin, the old shop with the guitars upstairs, about €350 I think.

It's now sleeping peacefully in my spare room, I took up the button accordeon instead, try get one of them left handed.

Don't spend a fortune because they are very difficult to sell. I tried to sell mine a while ago, no callers.

Are you in Wexford Town? Did you try Trax Music Store Whitemill Road, Wexford Tel: 053 9146896 or Minstrel Music Peter St, Wexford Town, Wexford. Ph: 053 9144105?

Don't know what their prices are for left handed guitars but worth calling into if they are near you.

If you already know a few chords then forget it. I knew nothing at the time. And I'm convinced that if you are starting from scratch, you might as well go right handed. Its all awkward at that stage! Lefty you are then!

What part of Wexford? There's a shop in Gorey, Enniscorthy, Ferns, Wexford town...:D

Maybe you should take a trip up to Dublin if you really are intrested. The choice of finding something decent would increase.
