Thought I'd start a thread about a typical day on the beat as I for one as a hopefull new recruit would be interested to know what the day to day job entails.

Now before you all go blasting me about security and not giving out details I don't want to know what time you get in and exactly what you do and who you see:rolleyes:

More like a kind of journal entry such as ' pulled a 12 hour shift and had to deal with stabbing, car theft and stone throwers etc' that kind of thing.

I was talking to my wife last night about the job and realised I don't really know anything about it and am keen to learn what I may be letting myself in for:)

If this is a bad idea then please delete this thread mods:)

It's taking over my life mate:eek:

I'm obsessing about the AC feedback, the merit list, when I might or might not be starting, if I'm in or not, where I might be stationed if I get in etc

If it wasn't for this site I would be divorced as my wife has heard me bang on and on and on about the PSNI:)

I need to get out more...

    Funny post.

Just typed 'Diary of a Police Officer' into Google and got this link to Norfolk Police website. I reckon all police officers on 'normal duties' in Western Europe would probably have a similar diary.

    The url is http://www.norfolk.police.uk/articleListing.cfm?catID=725

That said you may need to adapt it for Norn Iron lick. Add in a few spides racing stolen cars, the usual Old Firm handbags at dawn after a game, oh and don't forget persuading Community Representatives to work along with you. And then on top of all that, the current threat.

The guys and gals in the job may not have time to pen a diary dealing with all that. And still fit time in for a pastie supper or 2. :)

Am I making this up or did we not get a DVD at the Assessment Centre entitled 'A day in the Life...'? Also I know there's a link of audio testimonials also entitled 'a day in the life' on the joinpsni.co.uk website
