For Sale: Tacx Antares Rollers

Bought in December 08, these Tacx Antares rollers have seen a total of about 4 hours use (ashamed as I am to admit that). These are a great tool for winter training, they just require a bit more balance and concentration than a turbo trainer.

Like new, some small tyre marks on the rollers themselves, it has been used almost exclusively as an indoor bike mount.

Reason for sale is I need to make room for a turbo trainer and I can't have both.

Prices new: 138 euro from Slane Cycles and 132 euro from CRC with a RRP of 165 euro.

Selling for 100 euro and I can deliver within Dublin.

    Hey bcmf,

First refusal is still to theBouldWhacker. I'm waiting to hear if he can have someone take it for him in Dublin, sorry for not replying sooner.

I'm not sure what the rules are regarding offers, so I'm just sending a PM to bouldwhacker, he might not be able to access the internet at the weekends, but I haven't heard from him in 2 days and I need to move this sharpish.

No problems, let me know whenever you want them and I'll pop in the car.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,505 ✭✭✭✭DirkVoodoo

    Back up for sale.

Cost of delivery via an Post seems quite prohibitive so have to stick with "delivery within Dublin".

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,565 ✭✭✭thebouldwhacker

How much you reckon the post would be?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 359 ✭✭t0mm

    Hey Dirk and TBW,

I'm currently looking for a turbo trainer, but might be interested in this. I'm based in Dublin but family lives in Cork. Will next be down Weekend of the 28th/29th November. So it you can wait that long I'll buy from Dirk, and if it's not for me then I'll bring it down to you TBW. If Cork isn't close enough for you then I don't really want to buy without the knowledge I can get rid of it.

Hmmmm, gotta fly but think of a price... I may well be interested in such an arrangement, but my guarantee would come at a minimal price, think of me as a NAMA for indoor cycling....

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 359 ✭✭t0mm

Well seeing as you offered asking, I'll buy for asking, and if I don't want them, then I'll sell them to you for asking! I only want to try them out, I'll know after I get on them if I want them or not.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,505 ✭✭✭✭DirkVoodoo

Hey T0mm, that sounds like a good idea, let me know what arrangement you guys come to.

@TBW: I think because of the size they are categorized as a "parcel". I haven't weighed them, but they are certainly 4Kg+ so registered post could cost 16 euro or more.

I'll offer asking subject to viewing, i live in Dublin so no issue with collection etc.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,505 ✭✭✭✭DirkVoodoo

Offer accepted kavvoo, let me know when you want to view them: morning, noon and night are all acceptable, except tomorrow night when I shall be indisposed.

    Damn foiled again!!!

Ah well tbh I'm investing in illumination rather than hibernation. Gonna try to stay away from indoor cycling for as long as I can so gettin me decent lights and gonna cycle the winter away... thanks for the offer t0mm but I guess I'm out of the market, I like your idea though, good thinking, any similar suggestions let me know.

Offer withdrawn Dirk, best of luck with the sale

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 359 ✭✭t0mm

I'll still take them if kavvoo doesn't. Based in D2.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,505 ✭✭✭✭DirkVoodoo

Kavvoo's offer withdrawn, t0mm's offer accepted.

Just to clarify, you were offering the asking price I assume?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 359 ✭✭t0mm

Yup I was, I'll have a look at them if they're as new as you say then you've got a deal :). PM me your mobile number and I'll organise a met up, should be free tomorrow afternoon and saturday day.

I'll give you 50 quid for 'em (seeing as they seem to be cursed!)

I'll keep your bid in mind, but won't accept just yet :)

They are possibly the most difficult thing to sell ever, I'll probably just hold onto them if I can't get rid of them soon as they are pretty much a winter-only training tool, unless I take a go at track racing and discover some hidden talent.

No I'm just sick of this thread! :-) Plus going to to the Forge on Friday and in Dublin all week.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,505 ✭✭✭✭DirkVoodoo

I would prefer to sell them only in Dublin, but if the offer is genuine and Alfalad is happy to drop them out and you don't mind waiting a week, then I accept.

@Alfalad: I owe you a pint at the elusive beers, if the sale goes ahead then I will drop them out to you.

Where in Dublin are you, as I may be up that way during the week, but I am happy enough to collect next fri in Collon.

    Pm sent with my details.

Mattock, did you receive the rollers (thanks to Alfalad)?

They take some getting used to, make sure you try them out somewhere you can easily recover from a wobble, e.g. a doorway. Maybe try them first wearing runners, and remember the drop to the ground is farther than on the road, so it's harder to stick a leg out.

Having used a turbo now, one thing I forgot to mention in a recent discussion was that aside from technique, rollers are also excellent for maintaining concentration when fatigue kicks in. It's all to easy to switch off when on a turbo, but keeping your wits sharp is just as important as having the legs in a race (or so I am told).

    Cheers Dirk,

rollers as described, and met Alfalad as agreed, I will try them out on monday just setting out for a quick 40klm as we are heading to the faithful co to meet up with some friends .
The reason I wanted to try the rollers is I found the turbo dead boring and relatively noisey, we will see how we get on ( or off).

Thanks to Alfalad for the delivery, hope you enjoyed the meal.

Best of luck with the rollers!

Glad to be able to help out!
