Not sure if this is the right place, he's no lycra clad spinner.

    But for ****'s sake he's 7.

    And the bike is ****e.

The tears this morning as we went to cycle to school, to find it wasn't there ( not the school, the bike).

    ****.

I wouldn't mind, but it won't get as much use, he loved it. And I had just replaced the pedals.

    Scumbags.

Was in the pub with a Garda last night who told me that the amount of stuff that gets robbed from Garda patrol cars is unbelieveable. Gougers don't rob stuff for any particular reason other than the fact that it's not bolted down. Had you left it outside?

We used to live beside a pub and when I was 7, someone stole my bike from outside my house after the pub had closed.

I still remember the sense of bewilderment and loss I felt when my sledge was stolen from outside my house in the winter of 1984/85.

If ever catch those feckers I'll skin them alive.

Of course we had, It's one of those full suspension mountain type bikes, with no where for a lock to go though, so I lock it behind my bike, if you get my drift.

I know it's my fault - I just have too much faith in my fellow man.

    The tears this morning.

It isn't your fault. You didn't steal it.

That's sh1t. I remember feeling bereft on going to the school bike shed in '78 to find an empty spot where my purple Raleigh Chopper once stood.

A few years ago, my daughter's bike was stolen from outside our house and a crappy rusty bike left in its place. Cheeky bastard!

I had three bikes robbed as a kid, mostly when swimming. (Sea; Blackrock baths; Dun Laoghaire baths - both long closed). The one I remember was taken from Dun Laoghaire baths. Only 50 years ago. :)

I remember at about age ten getting a new bike in Cleary's, O'Connell Street, and cycling it home to Blackrock. So happy.

This might dry his tears but break your heart. http://www.islabikes.co.uk/

It is surely true that road bikes are less likely to get nicked than full sussers.

In the long term this could be a positive development.

My boy is 6, his bike is well beat up and some people think I'm crazy locking it up at e.g. the bike shed where he goes swimming (he doesn't actually go swimming in the bike shed). But... 2 of his pals have had their bikes nicked recently.

On a positive, I often leave my helmet on my (touch wood, securely) locked bike. Occasionally people will comment, "did you leave that there?" . To which the reply is that skanger's are allergic to helmets.

Just had my strada stolen, bastards! Thought it was safe in the work car park. It's completely useless too, they left the sensor behind.

    Funny.

Reported it to the Gardai this avo - he wrote the details down on a post-it, I'm not too sure that it will make it onto pulse. Was shocked that I was reporting it if I wasn't going to claim on the insurance. My attitude is if all small, generally unsolved crimes are reported and then shown to have not been solved then the Gardai will either get a kick up the hole for not performing or the resources to deal with them.

Reminded me of The Wire and Jukin' the stats.

Remember as a child I had my pride and joy bmx locked outside against a pole while I was in mass. Came out to find some scumbag had robbed my mushroom grips. Was gutted. Had to cycle home holding freezing cold handlebars.

@ OP - the poor young lad. I know how he feels, and at least he didn't post his loss here and have people laughing at him for not locking it well enough!

I just looked on adverts and there's an 8yr old's raleigh for 30 squids - would that stop the tears? poor ladeen, i hope his weekend improves.

It certainly would if it turns out to be his bike.
