    Hi there,

does anyone know of an insurance company in operating in Ireland who would insure on a new car I was planning on buying in the new year?

    The main problem being:

The car I want is a Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution VII 2.0 Turbo

    But wait there's more!

    I'm 22!

    And the real obstacle:

    I have a penis :o

I have a clean licence and 4 years no claims bonus but cant get a quote.

Am with FBD at the moment and woman at the counter seemed to do her best not to laugh when she rang her head office to ask :p

Can anyone point me in the right direction?

I was planning to buy this car for a while now and was going to finally go ahead with it in January / February but want to know I can get insured first, Thanks

There are a few companies that will insure you, but for some reason they only deal via brokers. So, talk to a broker rather than deal with insurance companies directly.

You'll get insurance alright, though you'll pay for it.

You could try getting insured on a 1L car and then swapping it over

    Try Briton insurance brokers

You should be able to get something through a broker. For higher powered cars St Pauls Travellers seems to be the inurer they normally come up with

Save very hard. If you do get a quote it'll be heavy duty.

Mum or dad won't be the primary driver though (I am guessing).

The age and penis thing are worse then no NCB.

I doubt you'll get quoted. My sister has a 190bhp toyota celica vvtl-i (and she was 23 or 24 when she got it!!) but no way can her boyfriend get quoted as named driver even. He is 23. My sister had an accident and all but had no problem getting a quote.....was even cheaper than me getting insured on a 110bhp car...and I'm three years older than her and full ncb.

Think quotes depend on cars location and where it will be used aswell as age, gender etc

Your current insurers are obliged to offer you a quotation under industry regulations providing you have a valid licence to drive it. Also, the quote cannot be so high as to be deemed a declinature. Do not let them fob you off like that and mention this regulation to them

I'm aware of the obligation to quote, but not the quantum restriction. Any further details on it?

A friend of mine has a 200sx modified up to 340bhp insured for less than 1k with Quinn. He is only 23 now and has had it since he was 21, the most he was paying was a little over 2k. All the mods are declared by the way. As far as I can see you can get lucky at times and get a quote.

First Ireland - I'm with Travellers now since last week through them, Hibernian wanted 2,500 for the year, I got a quote with the same extras (windscreen, breakdown, full bonus protection, excess is 250 quid)
as Hibernian for 1100. Travellers don't do direct you have to go to a broker.

All Insurers have a base rate for every vehicle on our roads within their quotation mechanism. That doesn't mean they will quote it for new business though and certain ones are flagged. However, they must offer existing customers a quotation, if requested

Insurers then weight this base premium by pre-set percentages for individual circumstances. ie. sex, age, licence, postcode, occupation etc. They are not supposed to increase these percentages in order to calculate a premium sufficiently high enough to be as good as a declinature.

If you start talking to Insurers as if you know what you are on about, they soon pull in your horns. However, you should really try and talk to a senior/experienced member of staff. It's not thier fault but many front line staff are only sales people and not all know the ins and outs.

Personally, I agree with Insurers deterring young men from driving these yokes, but I suppose it is your right.

Not every young male driver disrespects a high performance car nor do they drink drive, do drugs, speed in inappropriate locations.....

Quinn can be forthcoming alright. I was told by them, they wouldn't insure any car over 300 bhp, however when I send them a letter with my insurance cert for my old car and that i'm canceling my insurance, they called me up and actually offered to insure my M5 at a decent enough price. Also Quinn seems to be fairly unproblematic with modifications. Price only goes up, if the engine power is increased and it's after market gear.

I never said they did and by you saying 'not every' it means you think some do. A terrifying prospect in my opinion

I found it difficult to get a quote on an Integra, im also 22. I was with Quinn and just told em I wanted to change to a car I just bought, but AFAIK, the Teg is group 18 or 19, whereas the Evo is 20 (Same as Ferrari's and the like!) I know a guy who had an Evo 3 when he was 20, think he paid about 4500 a year to insure it.

I don't think anyone will actually quote you on it, so just make sure to have plenty of money ready when you get it. What are you currently driving?

    Hey,

Give ARB in Dublin (rathfarnham) a call, they seem to be decent enough with high performance stuff. I've had both private and trade insurance with them and they were significantly cheaper than any other quotes I received. Initially I was a named driver on an impreza and after that a trade (road risks) policy in my own name for work.

    Cheers,

    o/s
