Hi Guys, I have a '04 BMW 318ci coupe and I have been getting a bit of a fumey smell when I am stopped. Also noticed that it seems to be using a lot of oil. I've only had the car about 4 months.
I suppose these things could be caused by any number of things but any ideas?
    Thanks

    Could be numerous things.

There are AC pipes that can deteriate from oil dropping on them or also oil could be leaking and heating on components.

I had the same problem with my 318Ci assumed i would have to shimmy under and have a good look. However i noticed my exhaust was slightly blowing. Turns out the back box has a weak point where the pipe meets the box (bad design) this is fairly easily cracked, and mine had a decent split in it.

Anyway after replacing my back box section of the exhaust smell gone. Crazy i know, wasnt expecting that but it disappeared. used to always smell when i was stopped at lights. sorted

have a look anyway. but as stated my first port of call was the front :D

Thanks Listermint I'll have to have a look up front and also see what condition the back box is in.
