The Atlantis Casino, Carlow, is delighted to announce the inaugural Irish Poker Awards to be staged at the Carlow Casino & Card Room in December 2010.

There will be six award categories as follows:

    Player of the Year
Criteria: Player who has achieved outstanding and noteworthy success during the course of 2010.

    Online Player of the Year
Criteria: Player who has earned international notoriety through their online playing exploits/success in either the cash game or tournament arenas during 2010.

    Personality of the Year
Criteria: To be awarded to an ambassador, personality or popular figure on the domestic poker scene.

    Tournament Performance of the Year
Criteria: Judged purely on a single tournament performance; that success being in a major domestic event or prominent finish in an EPT, WSOP, WPT etc.

    Card Room of the Year
Criteria: Based on numerous factors including cleanliness, staff efficiency, broad spectrum of cash games and tournaments on offer and general comfort for players.

    Rookie of the Year
Criteria: Newcomer who has made an outstanding impression on the domestic poker scene during 2010.

    How it works…

Towards the latter part of 2010 nominations will be invited from players and casino staff. Nomination forms will be distributed in card rooms throughout the country and there will also be a dedicated website for nominations.

A shortlist of six candidates in each category (judged on the case outlined by their nominators) will be drawn up three weeks prior to the prize-giving ceremony.

A four/five-strong panel – consisting of independent judges from a cross-section of poker/industry backgrounds – will meet on eve of the awards to debate the merits of candidates and decide the winners.

The prize-giving ceremony will be staged at the €4.5 million Atlantis Casino in Carlow hosted by a well-known television personality.

All short-listed nominees will receive one night’s free hotel accommodation and dinner at the awards gathering.

Prize-winners will receive a trophy and free entry into the feature tournament of the ‘Irish Poker Awards’ weekend, a €1,000 No Limit Hold’em event.

If I may, and I hope you don't mind, but another category I would like to see is for Tournament Director (and I am not nominating or thinking of myself) but some of the guys like Neill, JP, Mick (from HP) to name but a few, put a lot of effort into running a tournament that satisfies the player.
    Just a thought.
