    Hi,
I'm in the process of buying a used car that has had no car tax for over 200 days. If I buy the car, am I liable to pay the back dated tax, or do I just start on a new slate when I transfer ownership to me?
I'm buying privately, so i'd say the car was on the road with no tax.

nope, you only pay the tax from the start of the month that you bought it, so if it was transfered into your name today, you'd pay from the start of october only.

If you 'wait' until November, you won't be paying any 'dead' tax.... ;)
