hey not sure where im supposed to put this as its not REALLy a personal problem but theres no fetac sub forums or ballyfermot college forums and it is a problem :)

Last week i was in class and there was a few people missing and the course coordinator who was also teaching the same class said he will now be deducting 3% for every class missed.
I didnt think i should speak up at that statement as i think it was just a scare tactic to entice people to show up more often to class.but today i missed the 1st class and came in to the 2nd class and he dulely informed me i would be deducted 3%.
now im nto an expert on rules and regulations but wouldnt the final grade come down to exams and assignments and not on attendance?
just want some clarification that he does not have the power to withdraw marks because if that is the case if you miss 4 days your down 12%

I would say that so long as this was made know at the beginning of the course, he should be well in his rights to follow through with it.

I would have a problem with him announcing it mid term when everyone was not there.

ill have a word with the admin 2mro but its almost the same as a leaving cert maths teacher sayin she will deduct 3% if they dont attend her class.as everything is externaly examined for the final grade :O

FETAC work I tutor has a minimum attendance level or the work is not submitted

But as i understand it no "Assessment Criteria" has a marking system that allows non attendance

However a tutor creates their own marking system and so can for example build in a factor for non-attendance

    If that makes sense

This would only apply to assignments, not an exam

If you look up a module and Section 11 you will see what i mean

ye as far as im aware if you fall below a certain attendance your work wont be submitted.but this surely cant be allowed as what about the students that are rarely absent get docked 3% of there end of year grade for each absence.i emailed fetac anyway but there automated response machine said they would ake between 3 and 4 weeks so ill prob ring them tomorrow.
