I Have an iMac but need windows for some software but mainly AuotoCAD, i know you use boot camp but does anyone know the cheapest place to get windows 7 or vista? excluding eBay!

EDIT: Do i also need to buy a special version of windows or just a normal one. In amazon i saw one and it said "No operating system,Windows 7" and there is others which just have "windows 7" next to it.

i Know i cant get the upgrade version thogh

Just the plain old Windows XP, Vista or 7 should do it. Though take it as written that they won't work fine;) Sorry I couldn't resist that.

I'd recommend installing XP rather than Vista or 7 if you will using Parallels or VMware Fusion, its a lot less demanding and should be more stable.

It depends on the spec of your imac. If it is a core duo with not a lot of ram then I would say xp if you are using either boot camp or a VM to run windows.

If you have 2 gb of ram and a core2 or higher, then I would go with windows 7 64bit for boot camp and xp for a VM.

If you have 4gb of ram or more, then definitely go with windows 7 64bit in order to take advantage of all of your memory(for boot camp). THis will also work plenty fast on a Virtual Machine, with 2gb of ram allocated to windows 7.
