news article posted in the Wheadon forum, thought a main forum update might inform and interest, news is evolving on this story at the mo'

    http://tvbythenumbers.com/2009/10/21/will-fox-bench-dollhouse-for-november-sweeps-after-all/31184

Back to back can only mean Fox will play out the remaining episodes quickly, probably before the Xmas break....and that's it!, no way it'll get a back nine. Fox has decided Dollhouse is no more.

TBH....i'm not fussed, i really got into season 1, but season 2 has been utter pants, it lost it's appeal and sheen....wasted potential.

    :(

I know people are going to be on here defending the show and giving out about fox and the friday night slot etc... but truth be told, the show isn't actually that good

New ep. this Friday then hiatus until early Dec., three Fridays of double eps. ....then back in January to play out the final few.

    Ep. 4 this Friday: http://www.scifiscoop.com/news/dollhouse-s02e04-belonging-promos/

6 eps. during December, then 3 in January...they could easily have another double ep. one week and the finale the next, so by mid January it's curtains.

Caught up on Season 2 over the weekend... watched the first 3 of the new season on Sunday.

It's pretty damn woeful... I thought Whedon was gonna somewhat do away with the "Doll of the Week" muck and focus on the bigger picture.

    No huge loss!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,906 ✭✭✭J-blk

Hardly surprising and I think pretty much all of us left watching could see it coming. Funnily enough, with no new episode last week I was just thinking that can't be good after a sluggish start and sure enough...

    T:SCC chronicles fans massive backlash should hit in 3... 2... 1... :).

Season 2 has been crap bar 1 episode, tbh I don't think I'd care if Dollhouse was cancelled were it not for seeing the awesome Epitaph One which had me hoping Whedon would kick things into gear this season.

I really don't think they ever expected to get a second season and were not prepared for how to move the story forward. The first two episodes were a joke, especially for a show that absolutely had to hit the ground running.

I just really hope that Enver Gjokaj has a good career ahead of him because he is a phenomenal actor.

The only sad part is with another sci-fi show failing, networks see it as a sign that people want even more medical or cop dramas (or even worse, reality shows)... but as already mentioned by many here, Dollhouse is responsible for its' own failure and got more chances to succeed than many other shows.

I feel sorry for Summer Glau, we haven't even seen her episodes yet and it looks like another show she's in will be cancelled.

Miracle Laurie, who plays November on the show, wrote on her Twitter: page "Trying not to be depressed. Get ANYONE you can convince to watch #Dollhouse LIVE this Fri, cuz we won't be back till Dec. see ya then!"

dollhouse it would seem is done and dusted with no hope or a pick up. Wheodn is resigned to that fact and would appear to be working on hiss next project which we should know about in the coming weeks.
UPDATE: Joss Whedon has spoken. "I feel [Dollhouse] is getting better pretty much every week," he just wrote to his fans on Whedonesque.com. "And I think you'll agree in the coming months. I'm grateful that we got to put it on, and then come back and put it on again." Joss also promised, "By the time the last episode airs, you'll know what my next project is."
    ________

Dollhouse is done. We knew this was coming—Dollhouse creator Joss Whedon recently posted on fansite Whedonesque.com that the writers were "not exactly saving all the good stuff for 14-22," but still. 'Tis sad.

Insiders confirm to us that Fox has officially closed the book on the Friday-night sci-fi series. (Series producer and Joss Whedon sister-in-law Maurissa Tancharoen, who also guest stars in an upcoming episode as an active named Kilo, tweeted confirmation as well, saying, "Yes. Cancelled. Sad but true.")

We're hearing that episode 13 serves as a season finale "in a significant way and gives Joss enough time to wrap up the stories."

The show is currently on hiatus for November sweeps (seeing as how its negligible ratings would more than likely drag down Fox's average), but is set to return beginning Dec. 4 with double-booked Fridays.

So is there any chance the series could go to another network?

Apparently not Syfy. The cabler preemptively warded off any fans hoping for a Syfy rescue attempt with this tweet, "Looks like Fox finally canceled Dollhouse. (No, I don't think we'll pick it up.)"

Episodes five though 10 will air in two-episode blocks on Dec. 4, Dec. 11 and Dec. 18, and episodes 11 through 13 will air on Fridays beginning Jan. 8, meaning that the series finale will land on Jan. 22.

Guest stars set to appear in the remaining installments include Buffy/Angel alum Alexis Denisof and Firefly alums Summer Glau and Alan Tudyk.

We'll miss Enver Gjokaj, Dichen Lachman, Fran Kranz, Tahmoh Penikett and Olivia Williams most of all.

Goodnight, crazy show that had the usual Whedony/Minearean glimmers of genius. Sleep well.

It comes as no surprise to anyone, hopefully it'll go out with a bang, Wheadon had his shot and blew it...Belle Chose should have launched the second season!, those type of eps. are what were needed to keep the show alive.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 3,418 ✭✭✭Jip

I'm still wondering why the hell it got a second season in the first place. I tried give it much of a chance as I would but I just stopped watching it after the episode where
they all escape from the facility only to be brought back in again immediately
    . It was just tiresome.

The premise was sound, but it showcased the darker side of humanity...maybe that dosen't sell in network tv?

...that maybe and the fact that a lot of viewers can't stay with anything over a period that has more than one sub-text plot and means having to use a brain to actually work out what is going on!

Dumb down, quick, fast and simple TV for the "here today, gone in five minutes" generation has a lot to answer for!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,906 ✭✭✭J-blk

But they did dumb it down and that's what did the most damage IMO. The entire first half of the first season was done as "active-of-the-week" plots to make the show seem more standalone and procedural in nature. Not to mention the re-tooled pilot, which could easily have been titled "Eliza Dusku's ass" instead... if that's not dumbing down, then what is?

Of course, that didn't work to attract the brain dead masses and also killed interest from the long term Whedon/Sci-Fi fans so the show was doomed right from the beginning...

There's no excuse as to why we had so many damn "active-of-the-week" episodes in the little of season 2 that has aired though.

I'm sorry. Am I correct in assuming that you are describing Dollhouse here?

Dollhouse barely amounted to being on par with V.I.P. and unfortunately Dushku can't even act as well as Pamela Anderson (which is really... really saying something)

Good riddence to bad TV. The show had a good premise, I will give it that, but it was cursed from the outset with Whedon having anything to do with it.

Except it wasn't doomed as it got a second season. But that was squandered as the first 2 episodes were stupid active of the week stories. It also came back with still a huge emphasis on Echo which was disheartening as the other characters are more interesting and Dushku is too weak an actor for the role.

Damn u USA network and FOX.

In fairness the 4400 got a good run and went out before it started to get really bad.

Dollhouse is a very week show, no great loss. Firefly wasn't great either but was watch able.

Terminator was getting good but by not having a great 1at season it struggled to gain more viewers saddled with natural fall off based on the 1st season.

True about Dushku. The show did have a good idea foundation on which to build on but Whedon was forced to bring us a version what was contained daily (as they made it - read some of his previous statements at conventions) in the scope of what he could do by board directors around high-up office tables.

To say he can't produce good items is to be quickly forgetful of Firefly/Serenity/Buffy/Angel/Alien (Resurrection)/Roseanne (4 Episodes) and even Toy Story which he helped with.

Whedon is as much to blame as Fox.

Simply, it was a poor show and deserved to be axed long ago. Even it's avid followers here can clearly point out how flawed it it.

    Good Riddance!!!

Has there actually been an episode aired between the time was reported as getting a back nine run and today's news? It's been on hiatus since late October.

Just seemed a bit odd that it went from nearly dead but still in with a slight chance to dead with no episodes broadcastr in between.

  • Banned (with Prison Access) Posts: 21,634 ✭✭✭✭Richard Dower

It was never getting a back nine, Fox said in Oct. not to rule out a back nine, but they lied...about alot of things.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,405 ✭✭✭shinny

    No shocks there then

Apparently Joss has promised a 'significant' ending

    http://scifiwire.com/2009/11/fox-cancels-dollhouse-but.php

at least it wont be a cliff hanger

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,747 ✭✭✭fisgon

Actually quite relieved it's over, I've just realised that I've been watching it just because Wheedon is involved, almost out of a sense of duty, while realising that it is really a poor show that has no real direction, tension or human interest. it just wanders. Put it out of its misery.
