Opel Astra - Need ABS sensor/hub assembly -front left

    Hi All,

Have ABS warning light on the last 6 months on my 99 Opel Astra 1.7DTL Estate and whilst brakes are fine ABS is no longer working. The NCT guys told me that this will be an immediate fail. Have NCT due 10th November and so hope to rectify the problem by then.

Have done diagnostic tests and i'm quite confident the sensor is shot. Its the front left and I believe it controls the speedometer which also stopped working at that time.

I started to strip the front hub to get the sensor out but quickly realised that it is integrally part of the hub/bearing assembly and it is that assembly that needs replacement. Opel tell me it will cost me a mere €350 and then VAT. The car is hardly worth that!:D And due to this bloody recession I have no choice but to keep her rolling for a few years yet!

And so my question (finally!) Where can I get that assembly for reasonable money? I did see some stuff on ebay in UK for Vauxhall costing about £60 + shipping but I'll need to be careful that it would be the correct part for my Opel. I'd nearly rather source it here in Ireland if I can.

Also, there is an Opel Forum on the net but for the life of me I cannot find the damm address and I'm sure that it is a .ie address. Anybody know of it?

Thanks in advance for any help you can offer.

    Kind Regards...
    Declan
