Mechanic Check?

    hi,

    I'm going to see a car privatly tommorrow that i'm hoping to buy if all goes well, but a bit sceptical as i've looked at it online and the site its on ive noticed that in the past 6months two different owners have tried selling it on the site, as in the first owner sold it off the site and now 6 months later the second owner is selling it on the same site!

    It looks really well, its going for 2K and an Audi A6 but i can't help having this feeling.


    Anyway what i'm asking is, I've heard that you can get a mechanic to check out the car BEFORE you buy, so how do i go about doing this?

    Do i take the car to the garage myself and leave the owner with collateral?

    Do i bring a mechanic to the car when i'm seeing it?

    Do I buy the car and then get it checked out?

    Or do i get him to bring the car and take the garages word that he checked it throughally?

    Offer your local mechanic, or a friend who's a mechanic 30/50 blips to come look at it with you.

    Will they come with me this short notice though because i cant imagine them leaving their garage for an hour just for 50 euro!
