Viewing my cctv over 3g

    Hi All,

I recently got a cctv sytem..4 cameras with a DVR, made by a company called Avtech.

It was a rite pain in the hole setting up the networking end of things, but I can now log into these cameras from any pc in the world and can view them as well as control the DVR..

I tried to log in with my iphone, but as the video is streamed via quick time, the video part didnt load.

I then found an app in the app store called EagleEyes, its made by Avtech and is especially for logging directly into your CCTV system to view it. When I point the app the the IP of the camera, put in my user/password etc it work perfectly-its amazing! But for some reason, it only works over wifi, if I try it oover 3g and hit connect, i get 'Log In Error'..this message usually only comes up if i put the wrong IP address or password in...

Is there something I need to change when logging in over 3g?

    Any help much appreciated.

do you guys think jailbreaking my phone and installing that programme that fools your phone into thinking its on wifi when its on 3g will make any difference?

I guess it will if the app specifically disables use over 3g? But it doesnt mention anywhere on the app that it only works via wifi..:confused:confused!

Are you accessing it via wifi on the same network as the phone.

i.e. is it a routing problem.

I dont think it can run over 3G only wifi.....not sure if running one of the 3g apps in Cydia would make it work....would be worth a go though.

If it doesnt work, another option would be to use a VNC app on your iphone to remotely view your home PC screen....you could still switch camera views etc.

I can access it through any wifi network so not a routing prob..

But if I use a VNC app surely I still wouldn't be able to view a live feed as the pc uses QuickTime which isn't supported on the iPhone .. That's why I use the eagleeyes app as the format is iPhone friendly.Or am I missing something? Thanks

If it specifically states that it only runs under a WiFi connection then I would suspect that jailbreaking your iPhone and downloading the 3G thingy off Cydia will allow you to view it. Least that's what I did to get Skype working over the 3G Network. It's great being able to ring my mate in China without having to be in a WiFi zone.

Yeah but remember Quicktime will be running on your PC at home. Your using the VNC protocol which does run on the Iphone to view your PC display so your not actually running quicktime on the phone. Anyway as someone else suggested I would try the 3G cydia app first.
