Trying to trackdown UK reg for a (now) Irish car

Hoping that some of you might have some suggestions.

I bought a 2001 passat a couple of years ago that had been imported back in 2004. Unfortunately there weren't many documents going with the motor(private sale) and I didn't think at the time to get more info from the seller (who wasn't the original importer btw):o

    Anyhow,

to cut a long story short I was hoping to track down the original UK reg for the car 'cos its useful when buying parts on some websites.

I tried the local motor tax office but they told me that they could only give out info to the original owner of the car.

I also tried the DVLA to see if they could track the chassis number but they can only search using the reg.

If anyone has any thoughts or suggestions, please feel free

    Thanks

    Pat

The old (UK Reg number) should be on your VLC (Vehicle Licencing Cert)? It was on my old A4 that I imported from UK back in 2006

    Like I said,

Didn't get any paperwork like that (stupid I know but hindsight is a great thing, we live and learn eh?)

It's (J.4) in your irish registration cert. That's the reg your car had, when it got imported to Ireland.

Also doing a www.cartell.ie check will give you the UK registration

his right its where he said it is. If its not you need to make some checks and make sure its a genuine import and hasnt got a dodgy history.

For future reference, it might also be etched into the glass windows.
