Recording in stereo with SB Audigy 2?

I have a SB Audigy 2 card installed on my PC, with one jack input as well as midi inputs etc. Problem is, when I plug in my keyboard (Roland FP4), which has a beautiful stereo sound, it records in mono which ruins the sound and doesn't give me the same pan and dynamics.

I have a double jack output from the keyboard going into a single jack into the PC, which I thought might work, but as its only a single jack input on the sound card, does that mean I'll never be able to record in stereo with it?

You don't have a proper line input on it?

You're probably using a microphone input socket, while you should be using a line input.

Its a Line In / Mic In combined. The only other inputs are Midi in, Aux in (red and white) and SPDIF In.

You could probably use the aux, couldn't you?

I don't know, I've never tried. They are the thin gold, red and white coloured inputs. I don't have any adaptors for my current jack leads which I use for DI guitar, bass, keyboard input, microphone etc. Can they be used to record audio in this manner?

You can buy leads for them, they're pretty cheap. This should do the trick I'd say : http://www.thomann.de/ie/the_sssnake_spr2015.htm

You'd get them in town too, I'm sure. That should work though, as long as you can see them as inputs in whatever DAW you're using you'll be grand.

According to this it implies that your card has a Mono line in which does indeed mean you can't record in stereo/dual mono.

Also combining 2 outputs together into a mono plug is a no no .

Yes, I can see them as inputs in the DAW so I'll give it a try! Thanks for all the replies.

    .

That wouldn't mean it won't work with the Aux though right?

The spec, compared to the Platinum version implies it's mono only including the RCAs in.

That is the Platinum specs refer directly to stereo but not the 'regular' card.

I dunno ..... read your manual!

Well I have the Platinum version, so should go stereo... I'll dig the manual out. I'll get those leads anyway, cheap enough, they'll either work or they won't!

If it's a platinum you're in business - you'll need either 2 mono 1/4 inch jacks to a 'stereo' mini jack (is it 3.5mm I can't recall) for the Line In or 2 mono 1/4 inch jacks to rca/phono plugs.

The other thing to be sure to do is select a stereo track in your daw and Bob should indeed be your Uncle ...

Definitely. You can never have too many leads! (and don't let your family and friends tell you otherwise!)

Just an update to say I got it to work - I go from the earphone socket of the keyboard (which is stereo out - thanks to the advice of the dude in Music Maker on that point) to the the RSCs, then map them to the VST input in Cubase, and then I'm away. And it sounds sweet. Thanks for your advice along the way.
