Returning to Ireland - entitlements

    Hi Everyone,

I will shortly be returning to Ireland after spending 2 years in Australia. Everyone keeps telling me how bad the economy is over there. Hopefully I will be able to get a job but if I need to sign on will I have any problems after being out of the country for 2 years. Someone has told me that I might not be entitled to rent allowance etc. if I need it.

Does anyone have any idea if I'll have problems when I go to sign on/claim rent allowance. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

you'll need to satisfy the habitual residence condition upon your return - this shouldn't be too hard with an irish birth certificate and family here etc.

You should be eligible for JSA, which is a means tested payment.

If you're under 25 and you're living with your parents their means will be taken into account.
