Buying a new laptop

    Hi,

I'm in the market for a new laptop and ironed out a deal at the weekend for a Tosihba U500-10 series, 4GB ram with centurion processor with a few extras thrown into the deal including Anti-virus software, wireless mouse and free upgrade to windows 7. Just wanted to know if people think that package is good value for money for €860.00 and if Toshiba is a good buy or not?

Thanks for your help on this buy the way.

It's hard to know exactly what model it is you're being sold. As there are different specs for that laptop. I'm assuming it's the most basic model. which is not a good deal imho.
THIS Dell is an amazing spec, it has one of the best laptop processors on the market, decent graphics, a fast 320Gb drive and 4Gb of RAM, with windows 7 home premium preinstalled for 849. Now that's a good deal!

Its hard to say without an exact model number and full spec. It doesnt seem anything special for the price, but then on the other hand 13" models do usually demand a premium over 15"ers. Theres no such thing as a Centurion, but for €860 i'd want a good Dual Core processor.

I wouldn't give two hoots about free AV, there are tonnes of good free AV packages anyway, including one from Microsoft. And a wireless mouse is only a few quid so I wouldn't let that affect your decision either.

Whats your budget and requirements (power, portability, typical uses, preferences etc)?

Thanks for the help there guys. Think the model is a either a 10G or 11G if that makes it any clearer with a 250 GGB HD. Would I be right in saying the processor is celeron? It is a 13.5" which i would prefer for handyness travel/work. 6 cell battery i think so about maybe 3hrs max battery life i guess?

I know the AV and mouse isn't a big deal but had got the sales guy down from €998 without the extras and would still try and squeeze the guy for a bit more if i went back to him!!!
