DVD drive speed problem

Hello, I have a bluray laptop that wont play dvds at the proper speed,i thought it might be the optical drive so i tried an external dvd drive but it still has the same problem so im guessing it must be something to do with the pc not the optical drive.It is an acer aspire 5520,anyone know what the problem could be?
