Do insurers need to tell you is someone makes a claim?

My insurer is useless. They've sent me a renewal with a no claims cert that says 0 years. The only claim I made was for a windscreen and they confirmed it doesn't effect the no claims.

My car was written off last year but the other person was to blame and they admitted liability and sent me a cheque!

I know I'll have to call them to find out but their lines are closed and I just need to blow off a little steam.

Since I have third party insurance, could someone else have made a claim without my knowledge?

did you claim for the written off car through your insurance (for them to follow up and recover the money from the other party's company)?

I presume that if someone made a claim against you, they would contact you to get your side of events!

It isn't via the AA by any chance? They've sent my dad misprinted '0 years' certs while having '5 years NCB has been applied' on the other documents!

Not AA and the premium is over 1k now! I didn't claim through my insurer AT ALL for the written off car, I merely notified them of the accident, and they got someone to investigate my side of the story.

I'll try to put it out of my head until I phone them tomorrow.

they obviously messed up so call them tomorrow and politely explain the error and you should receive a new NCB
