    Transmission would be my suggestion:

    http://www.transmissionbt.com/download.php

There's also uTorrent which you must be familiar with from Windows, but I still would recommend Transmission over it.

I use transmission but my download is very slow around 20kb/s sometimes
    reaching 60 or 70 i have 3 mb broadband.

can anyone let me know what setting i should have in Transmission to help faster downloads.

Oh and there is alot of seeds so that is not the problem

Just a brief note to keep all torrent related discussion above board. If unsure, check forum rules!

    i.e. don't talk about torrent sites/trackers etc.

talking about the software is perfectly fine.

I switched from Transmission to uTorrent. Mainly because it is the best torrent program for the PC. No complaints so far.

No settings affect the speed that much. If you are using public trackers, then you'll want DHT enabled, but that's on by default.

Do you reach close to your full 3Mbps speed with anything else (e.g. FTP downloads, Usenet, etc)? It could be a problem with your line overall, rather than just torrents.

Yes, but how many leechers? Ideally you want a torrent that has a lot more seeders than leechers - even with a ton of seeders, if there are huge numbers of leechers, you won't see anywhere near your theoretical max speed.

I use transmission with Lighthouse to open ports. Lighthouse has a profile for transmission.

Some ISPs are rumored to traffic shape torrent traffic but I'm not sure if that's the case or just people guessing... To be fair, torrents are not the best indication of your overall speed unless you're downloading a very well seeded torrent, typically from a private tracker.

To come back to your original point again, I don't think the problem is with Transmission itself... maybe have a look in the Broadband forum? Tons of additional info there:

Another vote for transmission. uTorrent works well too

I use Vuze, but i didnt realise that transmission was so popular, is it woth the switch? I like Vuze as it has a search featur built into it. Although, it is kinda heavy to run...

I'd say that's the main reason people like Transmission - lightweight and does what it does well. Vuze is too bloated and uTorrent is still not as mature as it is on Windows.

    hmmm

im gonna give it a bash now, see what all the fuss is about :p

    Transmission is the best.
    Simple and fast!

uTorrent over wine. mac utorrent and transmission don't have features that I use and Vuze is too bloated.

Gonna have to give my +1 to uTorrent, but Transmission is a close second.

+1 uTorrent all the way!!! Getting 500kb/s + download speeds

I like them both, I do find I seed better using Transmission, and my ratio is kinda important........when I download all my copies of open office :pac:

Can I use the transmission profile in lighthouse with utorrent?

By the way- I was never able to use transmission. It was too confusing at the time.

I would really appreciate an answer.
