on a serious note, look at the fields which are developing in spite of the recession. Examples are IT and medical field. These fields may need people who will need to do things like office work or book keeping and general management of contacts, scheduling dates and visits, etc. I mean, any time consuming work that will put a self employed computer programmer from doing as much programming as he/she wants, for example.

You may not need to retrain at all, all you have to do now is to establish contacts with people in industries that are booming, and tell them that you can provide a certain service for them. It may take you two years to do this, but it may be worthwhile in the end.

No offense, and a lot of people are going to find this out the hard way, but doing a college course that you think will lead to money without any genuine interest in it is going to be catastrophic and more of a waste of time than entering a company and working your way up.

There was a surge in interest in science courses this year and a drop in construction-orientated courses, which means a whole load of people are going to end up miserable in a few years time when they're stuck in a job they can't tolerate.

Do what you're interested in doing.

I wouldn't do a job cos you think it will bring you lots of money, you need to be interested in it as well. I kinda ended up (dunno how) doing law for 20 years (double yawn!), lost my job last year and was unemployed for over a year. I did a lot of soul searching and thinking in that year and I am now back in college doing a full time hairdressing and cosmetic studies course and I absolutely LOVE it. I will NEVER go back to office work again.

Anything that has to be done.

    Undertaking. People will continue dying.
