We are putting together a pre-marathon meeting tonight in the Squealing Pig in Monaghan Town at 9pm for any locals interested. It is more a "meet other runners" type meeting, geared at giving first timers a chance to ask questions of veteran marathoners. There will be a talk on what to expect on the day, what to do before hand, and some tips from those who have run marathons before. It will be relatively informal. All marathoners welcome.

How did this go - only saw the message last night at about 8.30, and was in the middle of a few things so couldn't get there from Carrickmacross. Great idea - maybe more notice next time please.

Sincere appologies for the late posting. I was travelling monday/tuesday, and quite busy when I got back on Wednesday. We tried to text all the runners we knew.

Meeting went very well. About 15 showed up, and most were marathon virgins, but some experienced runners too. Talk lasted about an hour and was very much an open informal discussion, answer the type of questions we have seen on boards over the past week. I think we helped easy the concerns and anxieties of some of the newbies, so in that respect it was worthwhile.

We are planning getting together on monday evening at 9 in the Pig... assuming we all make it home in one piece.
