EDGE network best provider

I am currently using 02 broadband on the EDGE network, this is mainly due to being up on the Slieve Aughty in County Galway.

The service has been getting progressively worse and I am seriously considering a change of provider. Has anyone else with similar network problems found a decent provider or is it just that the EDGE network is generally poor.

    Thanks.

Meteor is the only other EDGE provider but their netowrk is pretty cack , 3 is likely not there at all and Voda will give you GPRS or 3g .

Have you tried Lightnet.ie or Airwire.ie for Fixed Wireless ??

I've just moved from O2 to Vodafone, and in one particular location where htere was no 3G from either provider, I've found Vodafone GPRS to be better than O2's EDGE, strange as that seems to me.

At my sister's house in Co. Galway (near Mountbellew), I wasn't able to connect to the Internet at all, despite having 80-100% EDGE signal.

I used to live in the Slieve Aughty's myself (above Castledaly church).

The problem with coverage is, that because you are high up, your 3G/EDGE device see's a lot of masts, tries to connect to them, but doesn't have a powerful enough radio/antenna to get back to them.

This means, you basically regularly get kicked out, no connection or whatever. Nearest masts to you would be the two masts above Fishponds and that's O2 and Meteor. Vodafone and 3 are more towards Kinvara, so for something usefull: useless !!

Now, this post should not have been in the broadband forum, but midband, because both 3G, EDGE and GPRS are midband at best. EDGE will only ever provide around 300 kbit/s to be shared with all users in the cell.

We've got basestations for fixed wireless in Hollymount, Peterswell, Castledaly, Kilchreest and Killnadeema, so we can deliver broadband in that area, if needed.

You can contact 091-865 968, if that's of any interest.

    Kind regards,
    Martin List-Petersen

Thanks all, tryed Vodaphone when we moved up here and couldn'd get anything, might try again and Meteor, just on a cost basis think both do a 7 day trial which should show their value. O2 are just getting slower and slower even in good areas.
