    - First, press and hold the HOME button.
    - Second, press and hold the UP volume button as well.
    - Third, with those still held, press and hold the SLEEP button.

After 5 or 6 seconds it should display the black screen with the Apple logo and boot

cheers for that but that hasnt worked either was on the phone to a guy from apple support there and he talked me thru everything and no joy at all he said the phone should still turn back on but mine doesnt.its completley dead. ne other options?

hw said the only option available is to send it to apple and hope the phone still wont turn on and that they wont see its jailbroken and get a free replacement or if they find it its gona cost £140 and run the risk of it coming with the new software which cant be unlocked.

Some jailbreaking software has an "unbrick" mode. Google some more, these things are very hard to break.

have you tried letting your battery drain completely and then connecting it to the charger and switching back on?

    Have you tried DFU mode?

That should let you do a full restore with iTunes.

Connect to computer with iTunes running. Turn phone off. Hold the sleep button for 3 seconds to turn it on. Then hold sleep and home for exactly 10 seconds, then leave go of sleep but keep holding home. After about another 10 seconds iTunes should detect the phone and go into recovery mode. The iphone screen should be black.

Long shot but I've seen it before where the phone is on but the screen doesn't come on.

When you do anything does the phone heat up? (i.e. trying to boot into DFU mode etc.)... if so try opening iTunes and seeing if it appears there.

Ok, sometimes when the battery goes completely and utterly dead, the phone will not power one even if it is charging via the USB cable. So what I would do is plug in the USB cable, let it power up for 10-15 mins, then try switching it back on.

The main thing is, DON'T PANIC. :D As others have said, it is very, very difficult to brick current iPhones.

    You will get it back.
