    YES!

    I'm too old to be wearing t-shirts with sci-fi characters on them... but I'm also too old to give a crap what people think of what I wear... so... hmm... tempting.

    If you order from the States do you have to pay VAT on them, or customs duty or postage insurance or what?

    (Sorry :D )

    I was researching this recently in an amateur way. My guess is -

    $ Exch € Final

    T Shirt 40.00 1.30 30.77 26.67
    UPS 35.00 1.30 26.92 23.33
    Duty 12.0% ---> 6.92
    An Post fee ---> 6.00
    VAT at 21.5% ---> 15.18

    €78.10

    The customs use a fixed exchange rate, not the daily rate (I have not found their rate yet).

    You pay duty, an An Post standard fee, and VAT on their ("calculated cost"+shipping+duty+An Post fee).
    Your original cost might be $40+$35=$75 at 1.5 = €50.00.
    "Their calculated cost" above is €30.77+26.92 = €57.69

    Your extras are €6.92+6.00+15.18 = €28.10

    Duty rate is based on the TARIC code I think. I guess it is 12% for a T shirt.

    &YesNo=1&Indent=-1&Download=0&Periodic=0&Action=0#OK

    http://ec.europa.eu/taxation_customs/dds/cgi-bin/tarchap?Taric=6207910099&Download=0&Periodic=0&ProdLine=80&Lang=EN&SimDate=20091021&Country=
    &YesNo=1&Indent=4&Action=1#OK

    You pay €78 for a €30 T shirt.

    Wow, you ask a daft question and actually get a useful and sensible answer.

    Thanks :)

    Just went through the ordering process up to the point where I actually commit to buy. The cost was

    2 X $24.99 for two t-shirts
    $15.98 for USPS standard postage.

    Total cost: $65.97 (€45).

    I ordered a set of t-shirts from Threadless.com (another US site) last year. Their stated value was $60 and I paid €15 duty on them when they came in. By that reasoning the total price for these ones would be around €55.
