iPhone/iTunes question

    Hi all,
I have a jailbroken first gen iPhone running on Vodaphone. My iTunes is still a version from March 2008 when I bought it because if I upgrade any further, i'll brick the phone.

18 months on, is there any way I prevent my iPhone from being bricked by the new iTunes?

There are so many apps I'd love to try!

Updating iTunes itself will in no shape or form "brick" your phone. You can safely update it whenever you want. What you need to be careful with is firmware updates for the iPhone - iTunes will in fact prompt you about these but won't automatically download them. You can then select to not download the firmware update and not be reminded about it again.

However, if you want to use apps on the phone, you need to update the firmware on the phone to >= 3.0. On the first gen. iPhone, Apple has really stopped messing with the baseband so you can safely upgrade it and re-jailbreak/unlock it.

Check out the tutorials at iClarified on how to jailbreak and unlock your 2G phone:
