    Hi,

Looking at buying the following interface for home/remote recording my band to laptop (Cubase):

    http://www.thomann.de/ie/phonic_phhb18fw_helix_board_mk_ii.htm

For the amount of inputs and the firewire connectivity I can't see anything near in this price range, which is making me a bit sceptical. Budget of around 500 euro at the moment, has anyone had any experience using this? Or could someone suggest anything in or around this price range that they'd recommend?

I'll need to mic up a kit so ideally would need more than 4 inputs.

    Thanks

I have one at home.. Works perfectly for what I need, and the few reviews I found in advance were good.

If you were interested in trying it out, you would be welcome to try mine and see if the pre's were what you needed (I'm based out in Kildare).

    That's sound of you cheers.

If you don't mind me asking, what do you use it for? full band recording, etc?

    Yes and No.. :)

When I first got it, i used it to record groups and it worked well (btw only an amateur, so I can't comment on the quality vs pro pre'amps etc)... Lately it's just part of my home setup, so just solo but i use multiple channels so as not to have to reroute cables all the time..

I primarily use the basic features of the desk... instruments / mics into rack then into specific channels on the desk across firewire to the PC / Cubase.. Nice and simple.

It's 18 channel as described, but the last 2 or 3 channels are stereo... but more than enough channels for an average band with multiple mics on drums.

    Kenrich,

In case you haven't seen this.. SOS reviewed the 12 channel model, and gave it a good review..
