Caught speeding in NI

I was caught speeding between Newry and Banbridge, doing 60 in a 40mph zone. I'm from the south so have a southern reg. However I pulled in and the girl from the PSNI said she was going to arrest me... anyway she didn't. I got an awful shock, I really didn't realise I was going so fast. There were other cars going faster than me, but they weren't pulled in. She told me that I would be summonsed to Newry Court, that was over a month ago. Can anyone give me some advice on what will happen? How much I'll be fined? Do they have to summonse me within a certain time? I don't live in NI, so had to give the address of one of my companies addresses.
    Thanks for your help. :)

They can't touch you. Cut backs in council services in the UK normally mean that they won't chase it up. I got a parking ticket in London over summer, contested it and they told me that as it was outside 56 days they wouldn't pursue it.

Anywat I never heard of anyone been prosecuted for such a minor violation in a southern reg

Happened to me twice (caught speeding in NI)

First time, never heard anything more about it.
Second time, arrested (because l'm not NI resident) and brought to station.
PSNI were courteous to me at all times.
Went back for court appearance and was fined £60stg, end of.

Happened to me as well (in a similar spot by the sounds of it!). I think you should be ok by virtue of the fact you weren't brought back to the station. The funny thing is you would have to driven the PSNI officer back to the nearest station in your car if they had arrested you!

Just beware that you reg number is kept on file, so they might not be so lenient next time!

Arrested, brought to station, charged, appear in court, convicted? Holy crap, all for a simple speeding offence? Sounds like a retarded, inefficient and ridiculously expensive system. :(

Should be just like in France. Pay cash / laser / credit card on the spot or be taken to an ATM.

I suppose they could always let people with non national plates do whatever they like ... just like their neighbours!

I actually don't believe that is true and if it is then you should have known better than to do something as retarded as that with the Paras!
People from NI know not to mess with them!

Once you haven't been arrested on the spot your okay. you will hear no more. On the other hand there is a big clampdown leading up to christmas on speeders from the south where arrests are being made at the side of the road.

I used do deliveries for a garden centre up North when I was a student, many years ago. I drove right through a checkpoint just outside Newtownbutler, without ever realising it was there- and was chased down the road much to my shock by a jeep with 4 soldiers pointing guns at me. They insisted on inspecting all the plants I was delivering- there were several hundred- and it took me nearly a half hour to unload them and then over an hour to load them up again. They were courteous, and actually quite friendly when they saw how shocked I was, but I've never forgotten it.

2 points and a £60 fine for speeding on the A1 between Newry and Jonesborough, on my UK licence from a different occasion. :(

Whilst it mightn't have been a very sensible response, I have to admire the sentiment. Bit OT, all the same.;)

It's too hard not to speed on NI roads, when all the locals up there are booting it along regardless of the limits.

it is indeed true, this way fairly common on the border, the Para's always like to rough up the southerners and I definetlely agree with you it was a stupid thing to say but I was an idealistice 17 year old back then that didn't like the foreign invaders, needless to say things have changed with age and I would do it differently today.

Not true, they only do it across the border :-) The only cars you see speeding e.g. at A1 roadworks are the Southern reg cars.

I go up north every two weeks, I frequently see cars pulled over for speeding between Newry and Lisburn they are always southern reg cars. I guess they can get local cars through court summonses etc.
Be very careful driving in that area, due to the many roadworks the limits drop from 60 mph to 40mph quite a bit.
As stated they can arrest you or impound your car if you cannot pay
