Long story short, a friend's computer had to be reformatted and all info on it was lost. What's the best way for her to get the music curently on her iPod into the new iTunes library? Can anyone recommend free and reliable software that will enable her to do this?

iTunes 9 does not allow you to copy the music back from an iPod. A utility like Floola that you suggested will do the trick though.

OP, I've also used SharePod to do this (assuming you're using Windows):

For Mac OS X, there's Senuti:

It's also possible to do it by booting the iPod into 'disk mode'. Once it's booted like that you can just set iTunes to copy the music when it's added and drag the mp3 files to it.
