Has anyone done this in the past and is it a easy enough process?

That means that the Blueface connection will work over the UPC broadband connection isn't it? (no problem with that!)

Just ask Blueface to port your UPC number, you should not cancel your phone number.

Blueface will be cheaper that UPC itself but not by much I think.

No you picked me up wrong, I'm with blueface and want to port my number to UPC.

I don't think you can port in/out virtual IDDs.

Sorry I should have explained it better. I was with eircom till about a year ago. I port my eircom number to blueface but know I would like to port it over to UPC.

Yes, the problem now is that the eircom number is a virtual number, and upc might not want to port it since it is not based in a PSTN anymore.

But better have a word with them first.

Is this based on any particular experience or is it just your opinion?

Blueface wont do port-ins of virtual numbers. Freespeech wont do it either. That is the experience I have.

A bit OT I know, but is there an advantage in using UPC instead of Blueface for VOIP?

    That's the real issue imho too. Ones I can think of off the top of my head might be;

1). Does not impact those who have caps. (UPC Lite or whatever they call it).

2). QOS, as the UPC router has a built-in ATA.

    Thanks.

How limited/locked is their ATA ...or.... will it allow for other VOIP providers to be set up? If it does is there any advantage to using UPC for VOIP?

I had not thought about the router being limited until you posted ....

    Thanks.

It's locked to their service and their rates only. If you query the box you get some status screens but nothing to allow you to set up routing, SIP or otherwise.

Thanks ..... that explains the situation to me ...... I was not sure of that .... UPC is not available here and my son uses a separate ATA (an old one of mine) for VOIP so I had not come across the situation.

I hate to see people locked into one service provider like this.
I wish the practice could be banned.

    regards.

UPC told me they could port my number from Blueface. It is still a number, all I needed was my UAN.

I decided not to as I like Blueface but it can be done.
