Being no longer hopeful for, but disgusted by RTE

Does anyone else who just witnessed the abysmal, poorly-produced 'new' Podge and Rodge show on RTE feel the same way?

I consistently tuned in (whenever I could) to the duo's previous offerings over the last few years and found them at the least mildly amusing, at best absolutely hilarious. For RTE some of the material was pushing the envelope of acceptance, in a slightly similar way to South Park in the US, and it seemed fresh every week.
But their new "Stickit Inn' show has not only flipped my thinking, but turned my opinion of RTE and our homegrown shows on it's head. It appears that if you are not an RTE employee or tuned into the culture that surrounds all the Crystal-going socialites and celebrities, then you are outside the apparent target audience for this show. It's not that I didn't get all the in-jokes, they just weren't amusing enough to crack a mere smile. Even Podge and Rodge, two puppets, looked awkward and dismayed at times. In my unasked for opinion, this show is just an organised swingers party for all these 'celebs' to handjob each other's egos.
We've seen all these satirical topic of the week shows done before in every format, and letting Podge and Rodge have a crack at that whip is not a viable or necessary project to undertake with the already scarce revenue from license fees and tax payer's cash.

Oh and seeing that Colm Meaney halifax ad during the commercials almost made me throw up...again.

Couldn't agree more: the drivel RTE comes up with makes me so cross: that Podge and Rodge show was mortifying to watch: their home produced programs are mostly unwatchable!

Looks like they've finally got the internet at TV3.

Wouldn't tune in if you paid me, but was at a friend's so had no choice - Jesus wept.
Gerard Keane is... what? And the barmaid has massive bazookas - so RTE has caught up with the Carry On era.

    That encapsulates the show.

what they did was basically stick a barmaid with big chest and hold a "quiz" between two seperate "celebrity" teams: Gerald Keane and Lisa Murphy vs Amanda Brunker and Daithi O Se.

    Pretty awful.

Worse than any drivel they have produced lately

Podge and Rodge always were a poor man's Zig and Zag anyway.....

Yeah cyning has it covered in a nutshell, they've basically resorted to overtold jokes and glimpses of tits (albeit a serious pair) for ratings. And superfurry, I wish i work for TV3, or any media company at this time, even RTE!:)

Why don't you, why don't you, why don't you, go switch off the televison set & go & do something less boring instead?

Wow it took longer than i anticipated for that kind of a reply. I think it's perfectly alright for me to watch something and cast my opinions on it. But you are right dude, I will never tune in to that drivel again.

Well, because the OP is probably not one of those people who choses to post an opinion based on something he has not seen or heard. Unlike many MANY posters on ANY forum. The OP watched the show and then gave his opinion on the show. Now if the OP said that they watched the show all the time and complained about it all the time without switching over then I would agree with your point but maybe, maybe you should refrain from posting a glib answer that contributes nothing to the thread and go and do something less boring instead.

Podge and Rodge have been **** for a long time. Perhaps you grew up a bit OP

So yet again RTE creates a program to give its employee's air time as guests, didn't the Irish Times find that 70% of guests on RTE shows are RTE employee's....some joke.

There is another one starting now that other eejit niall delamar or what ever his feckin name is, a show about the other crap rte feeds us during the week and this idiot is going to regurgitate it again some night during the week.

Why are we paying TV licences? why are the flippin idiots in rte been paid these massive bloody salaries? just close bloody rte scrap the licence fee and get rid of them fat arse presenters for once and for all

Indeed. Whatever spark of novelty and wit they started out with, they seem to have lost their way completely over the last few years.

As to the roster of guests, I would expect that many people just won't appear on the show. That will throw them back on the never-say-no bunch like Brunker, and on whatever favours they can pull in the RTE canteen.

But none of last night guests were actually RTE employees, were they? I thought Murphy and O'Sé were from TV3, and the other two are the Jane Austen of anal waxing and the Matlock to the stars.

But this is a discussion forum, with a Television sub-forum, so that comment could be applied to everyone who has ever posted a comment on a TV show here.

Do you work on Stickit In...? ;)

RTE seems to be big into circle jerking over the past 3/4 years. this program had it written all over its face. they just make up celebs, then tell you that these are celebrities and if you dont accept this your a nerd. i honestly believe that from about 2004 till now will be recognised as a dark era for RTE. the wrong people are commissioning the wrong programs.

their stuff is so bad they have to go about creating fake accounts on boards.ie to help promote them. John Ryan (the 'brainchild' behind Nitelive) had a fake account here where he was trying to be edgey-cool and take the p1ss. a few of his mates set up fake accounts to support the show and say how john ryan is actually a genius.

thats the state RTE is in folks. fake accounts on the internet to tell us to love their shows and accept their celebrities

Wow good to see that i'm not alone in thinking that our National Broadcaster has, for the most part, failed us miserably over the last few years. But I doubt a few Boardsies are gonna make a difference so we either watch or not. Cheers for all the replies and posts, looking forward to posting more regularly on Boards.
